matchmaking

if every rank had a number value and matches were with 10+ or 10- of total things would be way more even.
if a pre-made team of 5 friends had a value of lets say 100 with a few golds and cobalts they would have to wait for a team of a value of at least 90 or no more than 110 before they could start. would cut down on stacked rooms. i did a match tonight with 5 bronze vs 4 gold and a cobalt, we got destroyed from the git-go. never should have happened. am seeing that a lot more as of late.

The problem is, DB’s playerbase isn’t big enough for that. SD has tried narrowing the rank range, it resulted in high level players (even just gold solo players) waiting for hours for a single match. And well, that’s great for new players, but hardcore players, who the game is actually built and balanced around, wouldn’t be able to play at all without deliberately lowering their rank and causing even more issues.

One of the main reasons ranked is so broken at the moment is because of premade teams. I love playing with my friends, I love supporting them together, but with this population it just ruins match balance. SD only made the issue more apparent when they allowed more than 2 people to queue up.
Premade teams need to be spread out across both teams.

i agree, but diddnt know the playerbase was that small, seems like its fairly large?

did the ranked used to be smaller partys?
i would love to see only 2-3 in a party.

also, how are new players supposed to “grow” the game if the game is built for only the “high” ranked existing players.
at some point everyone was a new player.

I believe this is how it works, with an hidden MMR value for each player. Problem with that is, playing in a team is a force multiplier and matchmaker cant rate every possible player combination. Not to mention it’s a F2P and making a smurf for ranked does not take a lot of time, making MMR even less precise.

Dirty Bomb is not a dying game and you could expect decent matchmaking at peak hours, with the occasional totally lopsided game once in a while. And unbalanced matches need to happen once in a while, for ranks to move during the season. If the game is always stale there is no player progression. Matchmaker can be improved but it’s not broken, people just need to have logical expectations. Also, try to play as a duo or trio if you want to face duos or trios.

Finally, it’s highly unlikely Dirty Bomb is balanced around high ranked players. The meta for vets is to have one account reaching elite ranks and then stop playing with it. There is no competition because there is no turnover at high levels, accounts should loose rank when time is not spent in ranked to keep people playing. So yeah, I dont think there is a lot of game data from high tier players available for SD to use for balance tweaks. IMO the tweaks that landed this month is the influence of vocal youtubers spending their streams in 8vs8 pubs.
