Matchmaking Incentives

Was talking about this with some friends, wouldn’t it be nice to give an incentive to play in a 5v5 matchmaking format? Not big things, but smaller things which could entice people.

Say they get upgraded case drops that remove leads from the possible drops, thus speeding up the process of attaining better cards. Maybe decals for your guns or customised melee weapons that display your rank on them, or that are based on time spent in matchmaking.

Honestly it’d be nice to see something. We really need to bring more people into matchmaking right now, it’s just sitting there, hidden away, with no actual reason to play in over a pub.

Once that’s done we can go on to splitting solo and stack queues to reduce the likeliness of a one-sided game. Everyone is happy. People get better.

Thoughts?

I think if the devs add this, and change the minimum lvl for ranked matches to 10 or 15, the population of ranked will be almost the same, cus ppl will fight for this

A game that I stopped playing did the exact same thing in order to keep people playing in their match rooms. The game being AVA, they would give a small amount of euros (in game currency) or timed weaponry. Having some sort of random prize at the end wouldn’t be to bad, so long as it is balanced

I think the upgraded drop is a great idea and would probably boost player numbers in MM dramatically.

Yes please. I would love to see MM be the primary game mode.

I’ve heard that matchmaking was intended to be the primary way of finding games and the pubs were just a placeholder until it was perfected - and while this may just be hearsay I can understand it. While I don’t want pubs removed as they’re great to get your missions and such done, I would like to see more effort put into matchmaking.

@MissMurder or anyone else, would this be something you’d consider?

Before we worry about providing incentives for playing competitive, competitive needs to be worth playing. I used to play competitive matches before they removed the missions, but hated the game almost every minute I spent in these matches. Competitive was simply a cesspool of stomps, AFKs, and toxicity.

First and foremost, competitive needs to be able to somewhat reliably create matches that are, you know, competitive. Locking out even more low level players was a step in the right direction, but more work needs done. Allowing only solo and maybe duo queues would make a world of difference and give matchmaking an actual chance of doing its job.

After an overhaul of competitive then I would love to see incentives, particularly ones that didn’t feel punishing to players who simply aren’t into competitive (i.e. not missions). This would help in (re)building the competitive player base by encouraging them to give it a fair chance.

Why would you lock out 5v5 games when the majority of players play in stacks because they want to fight other stacks? I know that’s the entire reason I play matchmaking. Solo queue should go in its own pool if anything.

Reason to do comp, you’ll always be on the team with your friends.

(HoopleDoople) #10

Forgot to include my usual qualification that 5v5 needs its own separate queue. Large stacks just cannot successfully coexist with solo queue players. There’s unfortunately no good way to handle the intermediate size teams, beyond having them recruit additional players.

Well then yeah, I agree on that. I assumed you had some weird hatred of 5v5 stacks and wanted it completely cut out of matchmaking.
