Matchmaking and balancing

I truly understand you need to beta test your matchmaking system because it definitely sucks b**ls and last night (6th of March) it took all fun out of playing DB.

Matchmaking:

 • It is not possible to play together with friends (no party mode) PRIO 1!!!
 • Matchmaking takes forever
 • In the end the matchmaked teams are really uneven, the few times we managed to get into the same server with my friends we ran over the other team even with only two people working as a team, says a lot of what your algorithm have achieved so far!
 • Please make it possible to switch team in a game even in matchmaking - I am quite sure we are a few that want to play a balanced game and I will definitely change team to level an unbalanced match! Don’t be surprised if you learn a thing or two from this when you evaluate this beta period.

On the point of balancing and uneven mercs

 • Keep the Shotgun, but have it behave more like a shotgun (short distance = Heavy damage, Long distance = Low damage due to scatter)

Your film on DB “Don’t be a Dick” didn’t make any difference - there are several dicks playing the game not contributing to teamplay whatsoever

Last beta you rewarded us with a full Saturday of Casúal play. That was very much appreciated!!!
DO IT, DO IT NOW!!

For my part, matchmaking will result in me logging a lot less hours of playing DB - I simply don’t find it fun, only frustrating and I will surely look around and find something more to my taste if there isn’t significant change in the parts above.

Hey

 • Matchmaking takes forever

I think they said on twitter last night they were having a few issues which could explain why the matchmaking was taken longer. I know the beta from a couple of weeks ago the matchmaking was nice and quick.

 • In the end the matchmaked teams are really uneven, the few times we managed to get into the same server with my friends we ran over the other team even with only two people working as a team, says a lot of what your algorithm have achieved so far!

I don’t think matchmaking can ever really decide how good someone is a teamwork. The more people play Dirty Bomb the more people will realise that teamwork is key to winning the game, both as an attacker and a defender. As you said it was chance that you and your friend ended up on the same server, the matchmaking has assumed it has formed two teams of individuals against each other.

On the point of balancing and uneven mercs

 • Keep the Shotgun, but have it behave more like a shotgun (short distance = Heavy damage, Long distance = Low damage due to scatter)

I have found that people running the shotgun do seem to be doing far too much damage at all ranges, I agree with you on this.

I have also found that Aura’s healing station seems to be a little strong. Trying to fight someone when they are stood by it is exceptionally difficult.

I also think the landmine/proximity mine needs a bit of a rework. I am not sure if its would be better to limit the number a team can place, make them more obvious by making them pulse or something. This would reward clever placement. I also think the damage is a little high.

The problem with balancing is this could just be my experience and I am sure the Dirty Bomb team is looking at all the info.

Your film on DB “Don’t be a Dick” didn’t make any difference - there are several dicks playing the game not contributing to teamplay whatsoever

Try to remember there are a lot of new players in this round of beta and also people are used to other shooters where team play isn’t a necessity.

Stick with it, remember these Beta’s are here to make the experience better for everyone

==> Nope not what I was reflecting on, technical issues aside the process is described perfectly in another post .

Man you have to pass through so many BS screens just to get in the game.

Go to Play > Objective > Wait for lobby > Accept lobby > Lock in > wait for 1.25 minutes for no real reason > One guy disconnects > Lobby Fails > go to Play > Objective > Wait for lobby > Accept lobby > Lock in > wait for 1.25 minutes for no real reason > Game loads - loading screen with London background > finally get in game! crap it’s just warmup > READY UP AGAIN FOR NO REASON > finally game starts, no not really - it’s just the mission briefing! > then finally game starts!

Just get a Play Now button and some parameters you can set before you press it, like game mode

Done, that’s it

If you keep going the way you’ve been going this game is going to tank like stale old Brink did
