Match players size

Hi Dirty Bombers,

Do you have any preferences regarding match players size?

I’m around level 8 and I feel still a bit new to the game so I try to join only 6vs6 servers (lower size as far as memory serves… AFK since 2 weeks now).
I have the feeling to have more control over game flows. Wish server size was a filter option BTW

What do you recommend for newcomers?
Do you have any preferences ?
Never tried competitive so far so I can’t tell if same players size apply.

Thanks for your input and sorry for my bad English.

Maps seem to be balanced around for lower player counts like 5v5 or 6v6. 8v8 seems to open gates of fifth hell and summon Statan, lord of dyslexic himself, introducing full chaos mode. Even though I like it the most, public 6v6 is bit of a double edged sword in my opinion though, since one fella still learning which end of the gun to point at enemies on either side can throw the balance out of the door and into the pool. But, none should have high gameplay excpectations in pubs or pub matchmaking to begin with so lets just stay in for funs and trying out weird stuff.

Competitive matchmaking is always 5vs5. Level minimum is 5 though which seems to make very “green” players, as in guys seemingly still figuring out how WASD works, to join it just because of party play (as in guaranteed same team with your friend) is possible only in competitive.

Wouldn’t recommend sticking on any of the modes or server sizes, but rather try out everything for more than a few times to see all of them and how they play out.

Thank coolFortress for your input !
I plan to play comp as much as can, aiming for the challenge and getting better facing strong opponents but I do have you point and will follow your advice.
Cheers

Rather thanks to you for swimming through that ramble. Hope you had life-buoy with ya  Don’t take my word for everything though, comp seems ton of fun sometimes while I’ve grabbed a team full of mates, but issues do exist mainly due to low player count leading to mismatched matchmaking and sadly absence anti-hack.

Oh, one thing too. Try out min lvl10 server when you hit the mark, you’ll be surprised how feel of the game changes.

More players means more chaos, but also more chances of getting quick XP, for kills, support or game mode missions.

By the time I read this thread first time I tilted more towards “less players, less hassle, more time to learn” mentality. But now that I’ve read opinions like this and though of it… Well, if everyone is overwhelmed by flying lead, fragment explosions and tracerrounds, one newbie (term used with good-will here) having his head spin around and having jungledrums on eternal loop inside their head fits just well within the mayhem, not bothering anyone specifically ^^ So that XP hunt point is pretty good one, specifically for ones not very familiar with fast-phased or class-based shooters to begin with.

I always quick match 6v6, its’ a more controlled environment and less chance of a complete bottleneck on certain maps.

Only need 1 person playing medic.
