Match Making Thread!

Ok, it seems as if it is impossible to get a match making game as a solo player. It is hard enough as a team. A few ideas

I wanna put down but also ask for other peoples ideas.

  • Reward the players more for competitive match making. It might be more coins or better cases. Right now there is no reason to entice people to play match making :frowning:

  • Lower the level to get into match making. Grinding levels really starts from 6 to 7 so just lowering it to 6 would make far more sense!

  • Ranks - I know they are due to be released but I feel ranks will have to really mean something when they are in the game. Have you decided on all rank levels yet and how many ranks there are?

Would be interesting what ideas everyone has about increasing the player base on match making.

All good suggestions

Having some idea of how many folk are currently looking would help - i go on, click the button, give it 60s and then cancel. If I could see the numbers of people playing a SW MM game and the number looking, per region, that might help me stick around longer.

Also as you suggest making the credits higher for playing a full SW match would be an incentive to play and also to reduce folk quitting.

i like no 1 most.

Do we have hidden ranks in matchmaking? (Is ranks (like silver #5) working behind the scenes?)

If not, why play match making?

(slanir) #6

Wish I could play mm. spent hours queueing (not in one go). I’ve found one match and then one player didn’t accept. Still no luck.

Forever alone :frowning:

Everything said in this thread is pure gold.

Makes sense when only haveing more interested / good players in the beta (“beta-players”)

But release-players will be 2-3x less good on average.

Release needs maybe level 8-9 before you can go MM.

Let noobs in MM = MM broken for solo-que but not for 5-man-que

That is where ranks will come into play. You’d think that a team of 5 solo new players wouldn’t get matched against a premade team who have plenty of experience.

You would hope, which is why I’d be in favor of lowering the level barrier for MM if it handles ranks properly. For a relatively new guy, once you have played enough to grasp the game concepts, the idea of playing only with/against people that are more or less at your skill level can be much more attractive than hopping on a random server where you can end up facing a couple of try-hards out for some newb-stomping.

And no, level-locked servers are not a proper alternative when the lamest player can eventually grind his way to any level and pub-stompers can create new accounts.

(Zenity) #11

Sadly smurfing is also an issue with ranked matchmaking.

(DB Genome editor) #12

That’s why I would not want to see the level barrier for MM completely removed either. So if you want to smurf to destroy people that are less skilled than you, you would still need to grind through the minimum level, and if the ranking system is any good, should also find yourself thrown in a higher-skill bracket fairly quickly. Lots of effort just to stomp people around for a few matches before you’re forced back with people of comparable skill.

In fact, if SD was to get really clever, your performance prior to reaching the minimum level for MM should determine your entry rank instead of throwing everybody into the same entry rank. So if you are really good, you will never get to play with much less skilled players unless you gimp your gameplay while grinding to the entry level (which in turn would make the process longer and even less worth it).

(Ceres) #13

I believe it’s all about the numbers. Once you get in queue, you should be able to see how many users are online, how many playing, and how many are playing/waiting for a match making game. It should be the same for teams - how many teams are already in a game and how many are searching. Just a simple small window on the top right of the screen with that information will be enough for things to work properly.

(Zenity) #14

Yeah the only downside to this is that people could see “0 players searching” and immediately stop looking themselves, so it could be harder to get things started. I still absolutely want this feature, I’m just not sure if it will fix much while the playerbase is still so small.

Potty trying to steal my glory again… most of which seems to have already been reposted so hoping it happens soon ™.

You have to bear in mind that rankings only start to get accurate after 5-6 ranked matches, it can’t really be calibrated before that. New users going into ranked too soon will find themselves against tough opposition for a good number of games, so having some pre-filtering via rank is better than having none.

That said I’m looking into if we can add some of potty’s suggestions to a future patch so that that initial learning period isn’t too long.

(spookify) #17

Detailed stats! Pub stats vs ranked MM stats and of course rank with maybe a global leaderboard! That would get me in ranked more!

For me maps are very important.

  • I need new maps to stick with same game (I liked over 200 good maps from W:ET. I have bought about 12 DLC-map packs(!), for 9-15 euro each (bought most on sale) for many COD-games. I enjoy and need maps whenever I find a game with mechanics that I like.)
If the game stops providing new good maps, it wont matter how nice the game is, I will move to another game just for its maps, even if I dislike many other aspects of the new game)

So I would like all at the same time

  • earn credits
  • earn a rank / skill rating
  • play new good maps (custom or offical doesnt matter as long as they are fun or good. (looks/atmosphere doesnt matter at all if the map isnt fun or good)

I would not miss public play, if matchmaking could have custom maps.

To have a successful matchmaking, enough people needs to use it.
Right now public play kills matchmaking, sort of.

However, if matchmaking cant / wont support custom maps, then I have a big problem with that.

Best maybe would be to have public play still around, but just a small button on the bottom, and have ranked play in 90% focus.
This of course, if ranked/mm will support custom maps.

As a noob I’m really looking forward that Ranks are implemented and to the Competitive Matchmaker to be working full steam (no pun intended). Playing against “pros” is frustrating, I want to play against people of my skill level.
And like Potty said, lower the entry level to 6. As a noob that plays casually (not long sessions) it is taking me AGES to get to 7.
