Marketing?

(enigmaplatypus) #1

Is there any marketing being done right now, or planned for the near future? I ask this because I want to see DB succeed and reach its full potential. But, I don’t think that will happen if the game doesn’t gain new players and keep them playing. So i really want to know, is anything planned? How is SD going to get people to download the game or get former players to return to it?

SD decided to focus on their partners instead, which turned out to just be nvidia and faceit apparently.

Hell if I know why, they could have used this to show DB to a brand new audience but instead we only got around 200 more peak players than usual, most of which are probably just veterans returning to see the glorious 1.0

Let us not forget that we as as players should feel inclined to ‘advertise’ DB As Well. Suggest it to your friends, leave positive reviews on Steam and other platforms, share your content to social media stuff, make videos, write guides, etc. I completely agree that SD should be pushing hard to market this game right now, though. No doubt about it. I just want to encourage others who feel this way to play their part as well. My expectations and outlook of DB has admittedly gone down the drain, but regardless I have always recommended it to people.

I hate how impossible it is to type or edit anything on mobile while using this forum now.

Don’t forget the Alienware 3 merc giveaway

Never knew the forum was part of the game experience. You learn new things everyday.

On-topic though, I think SD shouldn’t consider marketing right now, they should fix the so many bugs in the game first, so that new players won’t think this is a broken game. The devs had an excuse before with the game being open beta, now they don’t.

I came to make a thread about this, but am glad its already been brought up. I understand that theres time in between objectives, and a gameplan in place, but when your player base is under 10k (and we’re talking way below 10k here, like 3k tops) in a f2p game, thats geared toward competition, you really need to reevaluate.

I’m aware that money isnt an issue, you have a massive corporation behind you, but this game NEEDS to get out of the trenches. There are as many people actively playing ET still, and thats just plain sad when put into that context.

TL;DR get your shit together and do a massive promotions campaign. Why it isnt even on the main page of steam is beyond me.

They’ve partnered with Alienware before so I didn’t bother mentioning it. Plus it’s not exactly on the same scale as the old Alienware/Logitech or even Humble Bundle giveaways so eh

Most of us have been. It’s allowed DB to stay afloat this long, but there’s only so much we can spread the word. It’s certainly no excuse not to advertise the game. I love DB, but this isn’t the community’s responsibility

(DarkangelUK) #8

I’d say getting 3 mercs is a scale above getting just loadout cards, potentially for mercs you dont even own, that’s a much better bit of marketing towards new people.

(shaftz0r) #9

yes, clearly a much better option than say, the front page of steam. The actual reach of such a weak attempt at marketing is embarrassing

(DarkangelUK) #10

I wasnt comparing it to other forms, i was comparing it to previous alienware giveaways that were only loadout cards, i thought that was obvious

(shaftz0r) #11

i wasnt saying you were, just trying to stay on topic instead of slippery slope justifying the shortcomings. we’ve been playing the game for the same amount of time, and i know you arent happy with the current state of the player base. People like you should be screaming from the rooftops about this, unless theres something you know that we dont

(DarkangelUK) #12

I screamed for years and it did no good, eventually I gave up screaming and accepted that we have no influence over their design choices, they have a strict path they’re going down no matter what and there’s nothing you or I can do about it and a lot of choices means we’re wayyyy past the point of no return to fix them. So why get myself bent out of shape when I can be mentally more healthy by simply accepting this? At this point I’m not surprised there was no marketing, DB was always a passion project for SD and it feels like the passion faded a while ago now.

Personally I think the 3 merc giveaway should have been with the likes of Twitch Prime loot, would’ve hit a much bigger audience, and the right audience, the streamers.

(shaftz0r) #13

agreed 100x on all fronts, though i do think our input over the years has had some influence. It just takes a lot of time to implement.

I’ll hold my reservations on “dropping the ball” for another few weeks, but honestly, if they dont push for it to be on the main splash page of steam, its going to continue to have an extremely small player base, and face it will die before it even leaves the ground. I dont think theyll be too happy about that tbh

#14

Faceit’s gonna be 24/7 played by the good players like ozzie anyways so why bother to get to top 10 anyways. If they actually listened to the community and went for an actual marketing push then that would be a whole different story

Fixing bugs and getting the game in a state so it doesn’t look broken … Isnt that, what the last 5 or whatever years of beta were for?

#17

What about all the bugs that can be easily fixed?.. the most of simple ones and they would sometimes give excuses, or at least it feels like that

(Meetrock) #18

They were for building the game, from the experience of crafting and gaining credits to how the game looks. Yet, the gameplay still has a shitton of bugs, ones I’ve seen myself like: Stoker’s molotov disappears upon impact with the front side of the EV, Proxy’s mine teleports elsewhere when dropped in some areas, and sometimes doesn’t trigger if it’s dropped on top of the c4, deployables and players can block damage of deployables even if another player is too close, the EV machine gun sometimes bugs out and stays at spawn… and a lot to mention, I hope someone replies to this with some other bugs they’ve seen

(n-x) #19

And this what I and a lot of people have said since ages. They will just slap an 1.0 onto the name but it will be still unfinished and buggy like in the beta.

The only reason they had to put 1.0 on it was to get a new load of players because the game has been bleeding out. Calling it 1.0 without trying to get new players would be absolutely senseless. Then they could have kept the beta tag.

DB 1.0 is in no way more complete then DB Beta has been the last month. It’s purely a marketing stunt. And for this half ass marketing stunt they threw a ton of features out of the window they promised for the finished game.

Praise the lord they advertised
