Marketgarden also released

(nUllSkillZ) #1

Hi,

I’ve found a thread that “marketgarden” is also released:

(Shazam) #2

38 Mo ?!! :eek2:

(M8DNephelim) #3

is someone joking with me… :suspicious: guess not!
just have to find a plce to download from - the server was 12kb download

if this is as good as the original :rocker2:

(thore) #4

hmmm. never played it on rtcw… but my clanmates who have done so said it was a great map. but
again i think this conversion will not feature ET-specific gameplay and thus not reaching the quality
of the original. well, i’ll give it a try. downloading right now with 70 kb/s… i think i’ll spank my little
16kb/s upstrean a little and get the map hosted on pcgamemods afterwards… stay tuned.

(]UBC[ McNite) #5

maybe testing it before u upload in case its total crap  I also doubt it will play well in ET…

(thore) #6

well then fellas… get the packed .rar 13 MB version at http://www.pcgamemods.com/8524/ :moo:

(M8DNephelim) #7

ty  :notworthy:

(eRRoLfLyNN) #8

Any1 play it yet? I had some great games with this on the jolt RtCW Marketgarden server. It’s not like any other map I’ve played. Dunno how it would go in ET though?

(]UBC[ McNite) #9

I really wonder y ppl use rar when you can get winzip for free… and I m pretty sure the average noob has winzip but no rar.

(thore) #10

maybe that’s because the zip file would be 17.1 MB instead of the 13.8 MB of the rar file… and evolution
isn’t done by keeping focus on the average noob  maybe it’s just a difference in 3 MB but you may multiply
that with the number of files pcgm hosts and the number of downloads they serve and you’ll find those tiny
3 MB resulting in an not unimpressive spare of bandwith usage.

if there’s a better compression than zip… use it!

we could of course take a look on powerarchiver and it’s support of 7zip compression, that is told to
perform even better than rar in most cases… but READING is supported by several free tools,
even PA, so you don’t have to spend money in order to free the pk3

(Shaderman) #11

Winzip isn’t really free:

You may try the evaluation version of WinZip 9.0 SR-1 free of charge for a period of 21 days.
After the 21-day evaluation period, a license fee is required for continued use.

If you’re talking about this 21-day evaluation period when saying “free”, use Winrar because the trial period is 40 days  Another advantage would be that Winrar has full zip compression support
Anyway, there is 100% free zip and rar software available afaik.

(Fenris) #12

To get back on track, ie. the actual map rather than peoples choice of compression utilitys… :stuck_out_tongue:
Yes it’s a gigantically 38 MB unpacked, and it seems nicely converted too, as there are no players yet I’ve only walked thru it, but it looks nice to me at least. In general it almost identical to the original, but there are a few tweaks, such as some MG’s not pre-built but require engineer to build, some doors previously not blowable can now be blown by dynamite, though not too many, just some nice touches imo. Only negative thing I’ve noticed is the standard etpro issue that the icons tend to float outside the compass.
Hopefully some of you will take the time to dl it so we could get a game going, at least I would love to try it out on ET
I’ve put it up on stopwatch on arduis.servegame.com (port 27960), the server is stable but I’ve been having some routing problems of lately and has replaced my router and swicth so hopefully it will run properly again. Everyone’s welcome to try, feel free to drop me a note if you have connection problems, as all info is of help when troubleshooting.

(Demolama) #13

its big because it contains textures and sounds files from rtcw

(thore) #14

gameplay and flow seems to be nice, although i only tested with 6vs6 wich is definitely not the right size for this huuuuuge map.

mapping quality is, sorry, crappy. there are a lot of places from where you can spot areas that are outside the player’s reach.
behind buildings etc. some misaligned textures… and WAY too many places clipped off. it’s not bad to clip some spot to prevent
players going everywhere… but marketgarden places the clips somewhat “obvious”. i hate running into invisible walls. but only
paying attention the the gameplay itself… this map could be worth a play.

(deej) #15

I temporarily put up a dedicated Marketgarden server here: et.fragland.org:27776. I agree with thore, quality of the map is mediocre but the gameplay is still soooooo good for large-scale carnage (which is SD’s achievement, not the convertor’s).

Guess it’s the same like with the Tram conversion: gameplay > quality

(nUllSkillZ) #16

I’ve just played the map.
It has one bug / mistake:
If timelimit is hit Axis win!

(M8DNephelim) #17

that should be easy to correct though…

we dedicated a server to Marketgarden ET:
M8D International MARKETGARDEN @ www.m8d.org 213.113.132.177:27961
only marketgarden and ofcourse in stopwatch

[b]did i mention we have 64 slots on this one?

(deej) #18

<whine>
mine has 64 slots too
</whine>

(Berzerkr) #19

64 Slot-Servers with 24/7 Marketgarden.
This is what I waited for since ET was six month available.

:drink:

Hope the mapper will fix the bugs in his version.

(PlaidAvenger) #20

The map was ported over by =SG=Anxiety, one of the guys in our clan.

We have set up a dedicated server for this, offering FAST (about 500kb/s) downloading. We know it’s a big map, clocking in at about 38 MB, but once you see it you will TOTALLY understand why it’s such a large file size. With the FAST download from the server it only takes a couple of minutes, just enough time to run to the kitchen and grab a brew.

=SG=Marketgarden ET Server
67.19.80.148:27777

Hope to see you there, on the ORIGINAL Marketgarden server.
