Maps too static
People need to immediately know that something really wrong happened in these places. The chaos of a dirty bombs amply being restored before mercenaries took over.

28 days later should also be amazing inspiration. Pamphlets and graffiti from relatives looking for each other.

We also know that the moment you loosen up the social cohesion in London shops get torched and plundered. There’s a burning building but we definitely could use some more burned out and pillaged shops.
I agree a level of story telling is definitely something we can improve on, things from graffiti on the wall too missing posters, and like you mention a sense of histeria.

28 Days Later, and Children of men have both been big inspirations to us on the art team
You have Hyde Park

The park would would serve as a logical local staging area for an evacuation as it’s slap in the middle of the two main exits from the city A4/M4 and A40/M40, so it wouldn’t be beyond reason to have a tent city or compounds built within the park.
.
You will love the idea then for our map 6 chap all being well

I suppose 28 weeks works as well, at least for the bit where they venture outside the green zone and into the parts where they’re trying to clean up London.

That’s where the DB narrative starts to get a bit confusing. In White Chapel it’s clear the the cleaning procedures have started while in Waterloo the heaps of abandoned luggage suggests that something cataclysmic happened there. London Bridge on the other hand appears to be in the most recovered state, it still has radioactive waste but there’s a good sense that the authorities were making progress.

I suppose you don’t set London straight in one day but there’s a disparity there that begs an explanation.

-I guess Waterloo could be like panic during the underground bombings (though understandably you don’t want to hint too much at that). But then it’s going to need have lots of paper and flyers and pamphlets floating around. Also tossed over crush barriers intended to keep the crowds in line. That sort of stuff. A bit like this:

-London Bridge may have been hit by pillaging riots after the authorities were too busy focussing on the bombs. Then the government, in fear of having history repeat itself came down double hard on them to set it straight. It’s already somewhat there but the ‘militarised zone tacked on top of a burned out shopping centre’ can be exaggerated in that way without too much work. It would mostly be a texture job and some added debris.

Tapirs tapirs everywhere, as far as the eye can see.

28 days and weeks later has like you say some great shots of London after the aftermath of the zombie apocalypse, upturned vehicles, and smashed shop windows, but interestingly enough they don’t seem to portray large amounts of debris, although if I remember rightly there is a great shot of the London Underground with hundreds of tube tickets on the floor which was a nice touch.
London Bridge being the first map we made is still missing that story element to it, which like you point out Waterloo and WhiteChapel both have a bit more of.
WhiteChapel is clearly becoming a storage and staging area for the clean up hence a lot more checkpoints, and as you rightly noticed in Waterloo the large quanties of luggage outside the station suggesting a large evacuation attempt. I would love to get more story in here as well when we have the time, as I mentioned missing and wanted posters outside the station and on checkpoint walls. More prominant political graffiti perhaps against the CDA, or even better still some information messages still playing on the big screens in London Bridge, or stand alone CDA screens pointing out the evac points, or aid stations which would hopefully be a nice touch, and could perhaps help with game flow and direction especially to any new players.
I should mention we have yet to do a complete pass on vfx yet for any level so thats going to add more to the level and story

“Keep calm and carry on” indeed.

if I remember rightly there is a great shot of the London Underground with hundreds of tube tickets on the floor which was a nice touch.

That’s got to be 28 weeks later if I’m not mistaken. Which is a great source of inspiration as well because it’s more like Dirty Bomb post-post-apocalyptic, the aftermath is going on and things go wrong again.

I would like to see some Carrion Crows flying around squawking. They would probably be feeding off, well us i presume.
i had some on my failed castle attack QW conversion. just a scrolling texture.
But even better if a few were on the ground pecking at my remains.
