Mapping Problem..

(Hatey) #1

I was going to try mapping in Enemy Territory, but I ran into some stupid problem and I thought this forum might be the right place to ask for help.

So, I have GtkRadiant-1.3.8-ET and it crashes every time I try to save a map… I was just following a tutorial how to make a simple box and a spawnpoint, and when I tried to save the map the program just crashed… I thought it was some random crash so I tried making a new box and when I saved it the program crashes again. And its doing this all the time >_>, even with completely empty map. I checked the maps folder and there is a map with the same name I saved it but its 0kb… Autosave seems to work tho because it autosaved my map somewhere in the middle of making it, but thats not helping much if I cant save the latest. Any ideas why its doing this??

My computer should meet the minimun requirements for it easilly, so I dont understand whats crashing it. Maybe it got something to do with Vista, or ATI?

… for vista you have to use GTK 1.5 instead 1.3.8
… otherwise you wont get rid of this problem

(Pande) #3

And believe me, its an improvement. 1.3.8 is VERY old.

(Wezelkrozum) #4

Always use
GtkRadiant 1.5 for Vista
and
GtkRadiant 1.4 or GtkRadiant 1.5 for an other pc system.

(Hatey) #5

Oh okey… I thought I had latest version >_>

Ill try 1.5 then, thanks for help.

EDIT: Actually… now that I opened 1.5 version it doesnt rly load anything… all fields are just black, sometimes it shows the xyz field or even the map itself but I cant edit anything its kinda like frozen >_<. And soon it turns all black again. Wtf??

EDIT: Nvm lol, I restarted my comp and now it magically works just fine.

(twt_thunder) #6

get rid of vista and install xp

Windows: The closest thing to real magic, albeit not the useful kind.

Srsly, I’ve never seen a Mac ‘restart and now its fine’. Maybe thats because you hardly ever need to restart it, though. xD

(Hatey) #8

xD

Well the program itself seems to work now, but my map doesnt --
I followed the tutorial and made a box map, where I added blue and redspawn, player_info_deathmatch thingy and everything, but when I start the map and try to go to limbo or join team through console the game will just freeze >
>

I noticed other ppl have had this problem too but I couldnt find any real solution. I tried adding that team_wolf_objective in the map but it doesnt help. Also I tried editing the max/min coordinates but they dont help either, altho Im not sure does it even save those coordinates cos when I press enter after typing in the value, it will do nothing… So Im not sure does it even save those values.

That the limbo does freeze is caused by the missing or the wrong mapcoordsmin/max. The key and values should be visible at the window above the keywindow of the entity window when you press enter.

Get rid of XP and install Linux.

(Hatey) #11

Theres something the tutorial doesnt tell, like always. It expects everyone to know the basics of using that program…

I clicked player_info_spawn box and then it allowed me to add min/max coordinates but it still doesnt seem to work. The box upper left corner is at 256 0 and the lower left at 256 -256, and if I add 64 to each one then its 320 64 and 320 -320 right? Why doesnt it work then -__________________-

get rid of linux, sell your mac, install xp, enjoy your life.

(Qualmi) #14

…and just use dos

is good game ^^

(kamikazee) #15

@Above: Get rid of your computer and have a life…
Otherwise, learn that an o/s is not worth ranting about if it’s just to show off.

Anyway, I wanted to add that you could also look at Quark, an editor which is still actively supported and offers support for a host of different games.

Should you happen to make Doom 3 maps, DarkRadiant is another fine alternative.

(Hatey) #16

Uhm yea thanks for the spam.

(shagileo) #17

Hatey, perhaps it’s better to use the following coords for current testing purposes:

mins: -1000 1000
maxs: 1000 -1000

Later on, when your map has its definitive size, you can use the coords it then has.
Normally those coords I proposed should work, but it’s possible it won’t fit, but as I said: this way you can at least test your map

EDIT: Mac iz teh rulez

EDIT 2: the coords shouldn’t be from upper left to lower left, it’s from upper left, to lower right

(Hatey) #18

Well some tutorial said upper and lower left ><
I did try upper left and lower right tho aswell, because it seemed more logical to me.

Anyway I will try that 1000

(aaa3) #19

we (me? r rly goin off with this but imo xp vista or linux either but no mac xPPP
sry 4 offing but had to add tihs:D

(Hatey) #20

Yea well Vista is crap, but I cant bother reinstalling everything again.

Btw, the black fields/screens problem I was talking about earlier, it returned and this time restarting my laptop didnt help. This is what it looks like: http://img11.imageshack.us/img11/8396/wtfivw.jpg

Might have something to do with my graphics card because it seems to cause problems all the time when its working together with Vista…
