Mapping contest by et-scene.de

it would be great to get feedback from highskill clans but they are usually too busy scrimming and practicing to have enough time to help. At least that’s what i was told back in the day when i was making cathedral. Also i find it hard to imagine anyone having enough time to be both a high skill clanner and a high skill mapper.

An invite only custom map cup seems like a good solution to picking through the best of the customs already made. Would high skill clans be interested in this? Where the high skill go the rest will surely follow…

Hm, rereading this thread makes me think… ok now we (mappers) have been whining enough too. Chosen got the full load of bad feelings on our side, sry for that.
Now its time for something constructive, so I just sent chosen a whole lot of links and info on TheRiver II Redux. Lets see what they ll do.

Well, here in europe it looks like Highskill clans quit after this euro cup season, but we still have over 300 clans played this oc and are still able to play more cups.

A one-day-cup with custom maps can be organized by ET-Cup and Spu, GET League and ESL, but before we can do it, it would be nice to get some more maps.

I wrote an article at xfire ( http://www.xfire.be/?x=article&mode=item&id=279 ) to get some feedback about maps, the problem there is, that the system is very buggy, so some sited doesn’t fit to the title, but feel free to read it.

I also recived some PMs with possible maps there, but I didn’t have the time to test them yet (but i will do it until this weekend for sure).

I still like to say, that every map, every mapped can be submitted to the contest, you don’t need to make chances, just submit it to have a better chnace to choose it.
We are unable to test about 800 maps (like someone wrote, he already tested manny with his admin team), so please contact us or propose more maps here or at xfire - or just submit them by contact us in #et-scene @qnet.

What happens now? Are we supposed to build in your feedback and then you re-review the maps or what? Or just wait and see how you like them? :???:

There are some news about the “contest”.
After swine tested some maps, or better, after he tested adlernest, he finished the contest i think.
Anyway adlernest will be in the next et-cup (ye one of the announced cups on the first page) so i feel to won’t be able to finish this contest with success.

(Greetz flying to nellie, spu and swine)

But i still want to support you mappers with trying to get your maps in competitions.
At first, i’ll try to support the River 2 redux and Rommel GA (not submitted) will be in an esl cup soon, informations about it will follow.

I’m not able to watch this board every day to check, if there are any new maps waiting, so If u need anyone for testing your maps or want some constructive feedback and an oppinion about it, u can still contact me in #ue.et (#et-scene is not preffered but possible too).
(its not to build in my feedback, its about hearing an oppinion and think about it on your own)

Keep running the comp for next season

(Ifurita) #69

LOL, glad I put so much effort (zero) into supporting the contest.

You’ve become such a pessimist Ifurita :stuck_out_tongue:

No, I’m a pragmatist. All of my points of view were developed and validated through the course of 24 months of mapping. As much as I like mapping, and as much as I enjoy interacting with a lot of members of the comp community, I’ve decided on an objective basis that spending any time supporting the comp community with mapping is a waste of time … for me.

It’s like putting 75 cents into the soda machine and seeing nothing come out. I know that I learned a long time ago that you don’t keep feeding the machine quarters in the hopes that eventually a soda will come out.

What if I had been bright eyed and bushy tailed and put time into getting a map ready for submission … good investment of time?
