Mappers Block!

(zim) #1

Hey everyone, awhile back I decided to map my version of the Australian War Memorial, at first I just did this as a test for myself to see if I could build it. After I got done with it I thought it looked great and decided I should put it in a playable map. BUT thats where it stopped for me, I could never come up with anything. I don’t want it to go to waste so maybe some of you might have some suggestions.

(its not finished so if your comparing it with the actual thing its missing a few things.)

Screenshots:

(missing a few textures, i havent finished this room.)

How about the old capture something and take it to a truck outside mission

something like capture the building and hold it for 100 mins

The screenshots are looking very nice…
Perhaps something similar like radar: Allies ( or axis) need to destroy the big door (screenshot 2) to get access to the memorial area and need to capture an objective inside the memorial ( screenshot 6) then they must deliver it to a truck? Perhaps ad a teamdoor on the side for a cvops to sneak in…?

This was close to the objective idea I had planned on, but I think what I ment to say is I could never figure out what kind of environment to put this building in. Like a city, desert, ect, ect.

Hehe you got something about holding flags :stuck_out_tongue:

I did a quick pic. You could highlight the pavillion on an island surrounded by Tasman Sea water.

Although I could comment this just as well for some other maps I’ve seen, this looks like an exceptional piece of work. It does look familiar to a certain degree, having a baroque neoclassical influence on it (edit: missed the Australian War Memorial bit). The dome portions look a bit polyhedran instead of round, but who cares.

If you opt for a city map, you could throw in some triple a shader fx in the b/g too, w. ambient gunfire. Looks like a final untouched holdout for the axis there…

Not a bad idea, I like it.

I threw the dome part together really fast so I agree it doesn’t look great, hopefully I’ll revisit that part. I’d really like to put this into a city, maybe something similar to Goldrush. I tried building a city in the style of Venice but I really felt like I was just ripping that map off after awhile.

Looks great.

An example dome is included in goldrush.map AFAIR.

Have you ever thought to make this map for TC:E?
Actually not sure how much it is played.

Thanks for the dome reference in goldrush, I’ve already changed it in my map, it looks way better now.

I’ve never played TC:E, is it any good? I’ve only seen screenshots of it and read a few things. Kind of sounded like an ET version of CounterStrike. :expressionless:
