can we have the mapfiles for udk.to change smth .like rework some stages :). the question is maybe a little bit special.
please note thats no critic at your work but i think some people have the skills and ideas.
to maybe improve them (not me my mapping skills are still beginner like).
mapfiles
You’re really asking this ? You know they are not even sure about making an sdk right ? Nor they will give anyone the maps lol.
pls SD give us the map files!!!
really needsome rework!!!
thx for opening this thread
I don’t see a stupid answer here, only the truth:
- Are you serious ? The answer is obvious if you read a bit the forum, like the Community Map Ideas part of it for example …
- If they are not even sure to make an sdk, how could you import the maps ? You would miss all the static meshes and textures used, which is about 90% of the levels.
- From 1) and 2), you can easily deduce that they won’t give the maps. Plus they won’t be willing to lose time and money dealing with the mess it would make to let anyone modify the official maps.
Sorry to be harsh on this, but I strongly doubt it will ever happen.
EDIT :

You think you can do better than experienced game developers and level designers ? Or do you say that SD isn’t good enough to make this game ?
Hey attack. Sorry but there would be no point in making map files available without providing an editor/SDK along with them, because you wouldn’t be able to open them in UDK. It’s a different engine version.
why should smbdy not can it better or the same good. many of the most played maps in games are from people who arent learned level designers.
dust 2 as example. and he now works for sd. nearly all et comp maps are modified or createt by players.
qlive supports maps from players too. there are 2 new ones in comp.
and its not that smbdy says sd does their job bad.
It’s really OK. We are not offended by the OP’s question. No hate required here

Because official maps define the game, the mood, the ambiance and the artistic direction of the game. And that’s not for us to do that. Now don’t take my word the wrong way : I never said enthusiastic players cannot do great maps nor shouldn’t because it’s not their job (I know about that by trying to build a blockout for XT), but they are no longer creating games that define genres, they are improving on them and the complexity arises with it. If SD is taking so much time and talent to bring those maps and as you said, big names are at work here, well, I just don’t see how we could make a difference by working on the map files ourselves. Best we can do is give constructive feedback and suggestions and let them tackle the work to make it come true.
-> “really need some rework”, it’s pretty much saying that they don’t like the maps, like at all
Sorry, I guess I should apply diplomacy on pure logic, people don’t really like logic … proves them wrong most of the time (myself included)
well if you say they no longer create games which define genres whats about dayz, minecraft, dear esther… . every 2 years a indi game sets smth new or a mod .(the past showed us with CS , Dota) ,. and since indi games are get bigger and bigger we will get many new genres these days its maybe more and more that indi games create new genres . i havent seen one rly new idea in the big games since years.publisher nowadays doesnt like risks so they copy what is already there with a bigger budget.
Does XT look like minecraft or dayz to you ? The multiplayer FPS is already defined, even by SD lol.
no but you have written"but they are no longer creating games that define genres, they are improving on them and the complexity arises with it"
you havent specialised the shooter genre.

Well it’s still true, new genres are just a mix of old genres put together :
Planet Side 2 : mmo + fps
XT : fps + rpg elements
Minecraft : rpg with a twist
etc.
You can get every game by combining one or all of these original genres : fps, rpg, mmo, rts, board, plateform, arcade. Anyway, we are talking about XT here, but I could have precised “shooter genre”.

Lol seriously. So many bad games come out, like movies, like books, every day a dozen. And each one worse then the other.
How old are PC’s ? and you guys think everything has been done yet?
Man this is the total Kindergarten we got today on our PC’s. If we could go forward 4000 years… ok.
And you can get every game by combining 0 and 1 in smart fashion.

Still, I tried this with all the games I’ve played. Could not find one that was not a combination or one of the “original genres” with a twist lol. It’s an excellent exercise.
