Map WIP: S&M is back with Greece setting!

It’s been 5 years that this project first came into my and Pegazus’ lives after a succesful holiday. This project proved to be a huge challenge. So after many many “give up & get back later”. I never believed that I was able to see this day, but I am proud to show you some WIP images of a map in progress. Still big details are missing and things will change a lot.

About this project:

Working title is Kerkyra. Not overly long map, Axis attack, Flag Spawn & Dynamiteable Gate, 3 treasures to deliver into a truck.

Story:

In the year 1941 a group Italian archaeologists found a buried stash of ancient writings. One of the documents mentioned a lost mythology. It stated if an army chief used three charmed artifacts, his fighters would become invincible.

These artifacts were the unstoppable Achilles’ Sword, the impenetrable King’s Crown and the Emperor’s Chalice that gave drinkers bulls’ strength.

Another legend tells about an Empress bragging about similar items. The archaeologists believe the items are same and their secret unknown. A group of Axis soldiers is sent to inspect the Empress’ old Palace at The island of Corfu.

Well I have been working alone for a long time now. But I am hoping that Pegazus will help me with the interior now that we have a palace and that the village has turned into a map(ish)… I have given him the map file but he is very busy.

Looking good as usual, how’s the FPS currently? It all looks really open with lots of fine detail with no obvious ways of VIS blocking.

Looks like it would work well in another project too :slight_smile:

Thanks chris! We did try this for QW but it still had too many open questions.

Indeed vis is a task we are troubling with. The tris around empty map hits around 22k to 28. While fueldump climbs highest of 35-40. And it was built for pc’s 10 years ago. I have spent hundreds of hours on minimising it. All the houses have structural boxes so I am counting on some players being behind them (they wont block more than that). Also village and palace will not see each other. So I believe its alright but we will see. I do get around 150-300 fps noncapped without vis compile, but my pc is new.

Awesome looking textures sage are they hd compatible because they look superb hope you manage to get it finished soon!!!

Thanks! :slight_smile: They are regular textures. Amount of custom ones is so big that hd quality would grow size too much. I have taken tons of pics on my holidays, and most are made of them. Also some are from mixing old textures.

First of all, +1 for the project! Looks great!

I don’t know what big of a filesize increase it would cause to make it HD, but with today’s internet speed, you shouldn’t worry about that too much, imo.
I’d rather download a map (ONCE) for 5-8 minutes (make it 10, I don’t care) and play it on HD, than (ONCE) downloading for 2-3 minutes and playing on a map which could have and deserves a unique style, but looks more or less like every other ET map, because it uses the same/regular textures.

Just my 2 cents on that :tongue:

Well I’ll look into that opportunity after beta1. That is for sure. Currently I am unaware of the real pk3 size. Between 15 and 30mb I think. I want to see the real deal before going crazy with quality. Also even thought hunkmeg limit raises have been implemented ages ago, I still have a fear that some servers/mods ignored this (I need someone who know this for sure). So I don’t want to go over the fueldumps hunkmegs and values, to ensure the biggest possible amount of players able to play it. I think I still have almost 10 megs less hunkmegs than fueldump.
