MAP UP FOR GRABS!!!!

ok, well i started a map a long time ago but had to put it aside for various reasons. when i started the map all those months ago it was on a p4 with a fairly crap graphics card but had no problems in running gtk radient. unfortunately, now im on a p3 machine that sucks anus and cant handle creating maps - im down to what seems like 0 fps in gtk gradient. lurch - lurch - lurch
because my comp cant hack it and i cant spare the time at the mo, im offering it to anyone else out there who may be interested. i’d say its about 20% finished i.e. only at the MOST preliminary of stages. to be honest what i have done so far would need a great deal of work to bring it up to scratch. however, i think the idea for the map (see below) is pretty good.

HISTORY

i was reading a book a while back that was sent in england during the 2nd world war in a secret (non fictional) place called bletchley park also know as “station X”. this place being soooooo famous they made a smash hit film about it called" enigma" staring kate windslet (spelling??) hehe. anyway sarcasm aside, this is where, amongst others, the german enigma code was cracked by people like Alan Turing, the maths genius who paved the way for the thing we’re sitting in front of now (computer that is ; ) ). Bletchly park was the centre of code deciphering for england during ww2 and i guess would be akin to the intelligence centres in the us. their work helped, in no small way, to win the war.

so brief history lesson aside, i wanted to create a map based on this place and all its history. in real life, it’s a sprawling complex with a grand english manor as its focal point, which i think could look amazing. unfortunately, i live in ireland and have never visited bletchely park and info is a bit thin on the ground, so i just made something up. besides 12,000 people worked there in its hay day, so its too huge to recreate.

STORYLINE
basically i was thinking of a fictional storyline along the lines:
hitler has just been made aware of the existence of the code cracking centre. realising that the war can turn for the worst if the allies succeed in break germanys most secret codes, he orders a crack axis team to parachute into england to gain entry to the heavily guarded Bletchley park. there the axis must fight through the allied resistance and

  1. blow up the code deciphering machines (called bombes in real life)
    2)capture valuable documents returning them to a radio located at their spawn

so far i’ve created the shell of the map including a rough manor house, a maze, roads, skybox, grass texture, etc. in other words not much. i have further plans drawn up but neither the time or technology to add them. as i said, only about 20% complete, but there you go.
i wanted access to the house ( thereforethe documents) to be via a number of routes - direct assault, a maze or an underground cavern which emerges in a “secret” garden colse to the house. the bombe machines (other objective) would be located in one of a number of nearby buildings.

please dont judge too harshly. the map, textures and brushes are in their earliest stages and added purely to give some idea of definition.

now i realise there may be absolutely no interest in this map or its concept, but i thought i would give it up anyway :slight_smile:
