Map Nearly finished..help with FPS and compile?!

Hey people, been working on a map for a long while now and is very nearly finished, my first map btw. Erik-FTN is a genius who got it off the ground by helping me with all my scripting but im getting very low FPS, yes the map is very open but im sure they could be increased if sum1 could help me with this it would be much appreciated!

why don’t you post some screen shots showing the layout of the map the people can look at it and make suggestions.

use hint brushes, caulk !! , etc.

Hmm yeh here are a couple of shots. There are more shots in the gallery, i kno i need to use hint brushes but im just not sure where…ive read tutorials but am not confident in where to put them plus as u can see from the openness of the map i need as much accurate help as possible. The lighting has been updated from that second shot too.

well for starters you should make sure that everything that is inside a building or underground is not being drawn while a player is outside. So be sure that all the walls and cielings and floors are structural. The outside area does not look that big so it might be that you have too many trees. Try getting rid of lots of them. The area near the bridge on the far side could be sealed off by making the terrain higher as well. And make suer that every brush side that is not going to be seen is caulked.

Hmmm well ive pretty muched caulked all the none visible parts of the brushes and all my walls and roofs are structural, madee alot of detail to improve it.

I dont think the building is being draw from the outside but even when im inside in a corridor that only links to smaller corridors its only running at like 14FPS.

If sum1 would be willing i could send them the .bsp to just have a little run-around to see what i can do?

I’d definately recommend removing all the trees as a simple test.
It may also be that your terrain uses too many polygons.

You can’t do much with hinting since it’s such an open map :frowning:

in the console to check what q3 calkulates
