I was having a discussion today with some compatriots about RTCW and ET and what not and one of the topics was gameplay mode.
My favorite “mode” of playing RTCW is OLTL (One Life To Live) in ET I understand that it’s called Last Man Standing.
Anyways, it occured to me that the best times when playing OLTL are when it’s on an unfamiliar map. Taking that a step further, it occured to me that, for OLTL anyways and NOT objective, the best thing for a dedicated OLTL’er would be for a game to randomly generate the map.
Sadly, I don’t think that it’s possible with the current technology used in ET and OLTL. BUUUUT, I’ve thought of a way that it could be approximated.
Take a standard urban area. Everything is set out in a grid of blocks. If you had a series of gates at each corner, and randomly opened closed them, you would in fact have a random maze, different for each game. It would eliminate the “camping” and force you to concentrate on moving through an unfamiliar environment. For fun’s sake you could even have spots on the map that are suited for “camping” but they’d be mitigated by the fact that there are multiple ways for the enemy to come at you.
Anyways, just some stuff for consideration. You guys are the map makers. What do you think?
