Map intro video issues.

(Naonna) #1

If I start a game and am stuck in the intro video, my teammates will have already started fighting. I can move too in this time, but not see my character. Any way to skip the video via console commands or key presses?

I’m aware my potato-computer relies on configs to play the game at over 50 fps, despite 12 gb of ram and an i7 processor, but it’s always a bit frustrating that the video plays over the time I could be using to get to the front lines.

I’m not even sure if the devs know about this issue. I’d be fine if the map was still loading, as long as I can get to the fight.

And you’re surprised videos take longer for you than for others?
Otherwise would make no sense why it’s faster for others.
A problem on SD’s side would probably affect everyone in the fight.

Same problem with me, while the cinematic runs but my team spawns in I hit space and wasd, and when I can actually see im in a different spot then where i was supposed to spawn in from

By any chance, is your PC not the best aswell?

(Naonna) #5

If we could only skip the movie, we wouldn’t be stuck behind the first wave. It’s not a matter of the GAME loading, it’s just the little movies and camera pans.

It’s not a question of potato Pc. I usually spawn first in the game and sometimes, as @Naonna said, the video just is late and I’m stuck in it.
Sometimes, like @EverythingElse said, I can move in game but I’m stuck in the video.
It’s not a real problem but it’s not about your config.

There’s a number of reasons why we have the intro cinematic, with the main one being loading assets. While the video is playing you are loading in all of the assets for each other player in the game (Mercs, weapons, augments, skins etc.). If you have ever played and witnessed the ‘blue man’, this is when you haven’t loaded in that players assets yet.

We are working on improving the overall game flow with CMM (Casual Matchmaking) so hopefully that will solve this issue for you.

But why is the video longer for some people then? Or rather, why is the loading prior the video longer for the players? As far as I know the video is the same length everytime. SO if all other players are already done watching it, while you aren’t it must be something with loading prior the video, shouldn’t it?

(ClemClem7) #9

Idk if I’m right but it seems like the video don’t start at the same moment everytime. Sometimes it start right after I finished loading the map, sometimes I have more time waiting. But as I don’t really look at this problem, Idk if I’m right or just lost with my issue.
Maybe it’s just me. But it’s not the hardware’s issue as I experience both the normal video then 5 seconds wait then go and the normal video then I’m late to the party. With the same cpu, ram and gpu.
I just don’t know what is the problem here. But there is a problem.
But it’s not a real big problem AFAIK.

i already dropped into a match without any loading or a video and guess what, everything was as perfect as it could be with maxed graphics
i just clicked “join” in the server browser, some little loading(like when joining any other lobby) and boom, i was spawning in, no vid, no loading (it was most likely a bug but wtf?!?)

i admit, my machine is a brand new, custom built gaming pc and can run maxed dayz with more than 150 fps in small towns, so it doesnt surprise me how fast it can load

The game is designed to make sure that even the lowest of the low potatoes can load assets. So even though your PC can load in assets much quicker it still means that other PC’s that are connected to the server have to load in your assets as well. To ensure this is done slowly to not cause spikes to those potato pc there is what appears to be a universal wait window that we all get just to make sure that the guy with a Compaq Presario from 2004 won’t freeze up entirely with you joining.

At least that is my understanding of the logic behind the intros. It’s a disguised load time window so all connected PC’s can sync assets on the server without freaking out.

(Herr_Hanz) #12

thats the logic behind it, and its true, but even then there is a delay.

i dont remember when, but i have encountered that i alt tabbed out of DB in the lobby, surfed the web, alt tabbed into the game, and then the intro started. 5 seconds (or more) behind all the other players.

(i run DB at 130FPS, no potato pc here)

If we skip we don’t know what we must do

Nope my pc is a Pentium with 6gb ram and integrated graphics lol

Reasons for different load times

1.Some people like me have games loaded onto ssd instead the tradional mechanical hard drive. Ssd has faster loading times(i have a 1tb ssd for my steam library and once ngs does its thing db opens very quickly and im usualy in new game game from loby before most people and waiting for them to load )

  1. Not every one has a beast gaming rig proccesor speed ram amount also affect load times.slower proccesors take longer and if your low or or out ram it resorts to the slower hdd instead of ram

  2. Viruses/scamware/crap ware. These could be intentenionaly causing performance issues as well

If u feel your pc is running slow i suggest u defrag hdd run some kind of antivirus/malware software

Open resourse monitor and look for hi cpu utilizatuon apps while your idle and google them to see if its normal for that app
