Map in progress : Urban Escape

Hey there…
I thought the time has come to show some early screenshots from my work in progress called “Urban Escape”. It’s still not even anywhere near alpha, so don’t expect a release anytime soon, but maybe those screenshots will make you await the release :smiley:

The little church used here is based on a RTCW prefab (forgot the name of the author, but he will be credited in the release) but modified by me to fit the scene.

I won’t tell any details about the objectives yet since it will be something different from the usual maps, but as soon as the main brush work is done I’ll bring in some updates.

Comments, rants and flames are welcome… :cool:

When i saw the topic i thought it was going to be the second part of Urban Territory :smiley: .

Great map! Waiting to see more, i like cities maps, and there are few. I like seeing destroyed buldings all arround :clap: :clap:

very nice…reminds me of this medal of honor level where I was controling the tank and blowing up buildings that level was great…anyway should be an exellent map…keep the good ideas coming

Some new up to date screenshots, some areas are still being worked on, some textures are not fixed to fit the rest, so some things in the screenshots won’t look right yet. But oh well…
Progress is slower than I wished for, but we’re coming along… :smiley:

It’s looking very promising indeed. I spot a lot of new textures in the second set of shots, is cool to see mappers taking the time to make additional textures to give the level a different look.

I think there’s some quite interesting ideas you can start to do with the gameplay of the map, (it was something we’d made test maps for) is to have planes flying overhead knocking out bits of buildings, maybe clearing barriers etc. It would certainly add a bit of dynamism to the level.

I notice that one of the skins on the jagdpanther tank doesn’t have a temperate skin version for it; I think it’s still using the desert version. This is our fault because we didn’t release one; the model in Radar has the same problem. If there are any future patches I’ll see if I can stick one in there.

Do you plan to have any of the stereotypical burning fires dotted around? I’m not sure if it needs it, it really depends how recent the ruins are.

In a similar way we did the lightening effect in Radar, it might be a nice touch to have that kind of ambience happening in the sky box, distant bomb drops illuminating the sky etc, maybe tied to some audio?

Anyhow it’s looking good so far, so keep posting shots :slight_smile:

P.S. As a minor point, in the third shot in the second lot of pics the roof tile texture is upside-down :slight_smile:

Looks very nice. Reminds me of destruction from RTCW. I always enjoyed that map. It looks like soem of the buildings are open so we can go inside and loot the place. Is this the case? I really think buildings that you can enter and hide in always add soemthing to the map.

Well, I can’t take the credit for those new textures, most of them are by ydnar (and the rubble by Blockbuster :wink: ), I just put them to good use and wrote some shaders for them to make them fit the mood. I guess the map will be a huge download once it’s finished.

I planned on having some bombing going on while the map is in progress, hadn’t thought about planes destroying buildings/barriers while the game progresses yet, but that’s definitly a nice idea.

I’m trying to get as many parts of the town to be func_explosives as possible so you will be able to shred quite a lot of the buildings to pieces, I’ll have to see how far I can go concerning FPS though.

I was thinking about those little fires, but I don’t really know if it would fit the map well… I think I’ll stay without, but I’ll at least make a small test with it sometime… :slight_smile:

I’ll keep you updated with new shots as the map progresses…

Alread got the plans for the next map in my mind… And by far not enough time… :wink:
