Map designs. Please o please could a dev explain the reasoning

(shirosae) #121

For a moment there, I thought we had a work of Shakespeare from Infinite Monkeys Inc.

And then I realised that your idea of a solution appears to be the maps as they are right now, without forward spawns or altered spawn timers, massively defensively biased on stopwatch, with double full-holds every time.

There’s no point going to stopwatch as a default mode (or even at all, really) unless the maps are altered to bring the average completion time a standard deviation below the time limit. If anything, maps should be designed with that in mind, and then have spawn timers/alternate spawns added in to fudge them to fit campaign play if it really needs to be there.

As is, this thread is a bit like listening to Derpack Chopra arguing with a physicist about how he’s immortal because of the quantum zeno effect.

(Kurushi) #122

Am I missing something here? I’ve not seen one full hold with the new Stopwatch timers

(DarkangelUK) #123
Always funny why you come out to play.

Let me get my boots on because its getting deep.
And I always like it when you bring your guide dog and walking stick to a discussion you know nothing about, just because the devs posted.

(.Chris.) #124

Are there even matches been played on stopwatch any more? I mean between clans that know what they are doing?

(tokamak) #125

That’s rich coming from someone who is proud to admit he has not the faintest idea what the ‘good old days’ encompass.

(BioSnark) #126

ikr! Not once have I played maps like shipyard, sectower, cc, etc. and thought these maps have lots of space for forwards instead of cps. Indeed, many’s the time I thought offense should spawn farther away and the map should add a dozen more minutes to defense to compensate. These maps just have no space.

(wolfnemesis75) #127

Some people struggle real bad at this game.
(Underlying issue here.)
And some people don’t.

(DarkangelUK) #128

So in other words ‘no’, there aren’t clan matches being played in SW with proper team work, and you’re basing your view on pub games on console where half the players are bots… nice!

(sachewan) #129

Perfect balance on asymmetrical maps is impossible, please just make the maps offensively biased and make Stopwatch the default mode.

(tokamak) #130

Dynamic spawn times is where it’s at.

(wolfnemesis75) #131

Its a beautiful day in the Ark neighborhood

(DarkangelUK) #132

That’s actually about the most sensible thing you’ve said in this thread… and I honestly mean that

(.Chris.) #133

Is that a younger and slimmer version of Gordon Brown?

(wolfnemesis75) #134

Mr. Rogers Neighborhood. I forget sometimes that some folk are from not USA land. It was a PBS show for kids. At the end of each episode Mr. Rogers changes his shoes and sings his song while he gets ready to leave.

Died years ago, back in the good ole days. When people walked ten miles to school in ten feet of snow.

I forget that DarkangelUK is a teenager. Seems like one. He pulls everything out of context and tries to write people off like a high-school kid does. And doesn’t seem to play Brink much at all based on his comments which are usually based on “the crowd” or “other” people’s opinions. Like any console remark he makes.

Forward spawns would suck in Brink plain and simple. The maps are CQC.

(sachewan) #135

This would do the job as well. Things would be so much simpler if Map design was done under the assumption that attackers would always complete the map.

I don’t see how forward spawns would compromise CQC…

Well done wolf, you’re avoiding questions left, right and centre and instead go for demeaning remarks or predictable comments regarding age… is it possible for you lot to answer a question that’s been directly asked? Well yes it is… but you don’t when you know the answer only proves the counter point.

Leaving your age out of it (I’ve probably been on this forum longer than you’ve been gaming but ok), there is no out of context, there’s complete lack of knowledge on your part, and since you want to bring up childish actions… this constant song and dance you like to do and waving of arms to get attention in front of devs is getting boring now. You know nothing about map design, layout or balancing. You know nothing about competitive play or expected outcome. You know… nothing, you don’t even have your own opinion, you have Brink which in your eyes in infallible, but have nothing to compare it against to even know that. When it comes to gaming… you’re a child, you’ve been given your 1st cheapass piece of chocolate and think it’s the best ever made cos you’ve never tasted anything else, but still think you can give anything resembling an educated opinion on something you know nothing about.

You also seem to have settled on 1 single aspect, and that’s forward spawns, when it was clearly stated numerous issues are causing the downfall in design. But I’m guessing as a child you can’t cope with focusing on more than 1 thing at a time… I guess you could always rely on your extensive mapping and design knowledge to fall back on in that regards… oh wait. Well I guess you can fall back on your extensive experience of competitive play and beta feedback you’ve given from other objective based shooters to help pinpoint design flaws in the map layout and design… oh wait.

Darn, I guess you’re **** out of luck then aren’t you.

The last scrims I heard of were GzR and F8 playing before Quakecon, and even then they were playing with ringers if I recall. I don’t know if it’s any better in the EU, but I highly doubt it since ESL is over. So to answer your question, no, no good team is actually scrimming or playing stopwatch as everyone went back to better games.

Do you even know what CQC means? If forward spawns were implemented into a game, the offense would spawn even closer to the objective and the defending team, so the game would contain even more close quarters 1v1s.

What gets me is that you won’t listen to Chris, you didn’t listen to hollywood in another thread about BRINK’s problems, and now you’re not listening to the mix of modders and competitive players here. It’s crazy.

I run a business. I sometimes wish that my customers were as understanding as you are when things don’t pan out 100% but of course I live in the real world and that’s not how it works.

I can appreciate that the devs are on here and it seems like they are communicating more which is cool. That doesn’t mean that some people can’t voice their displeasure. The devs are big boys and girls. They can handle the criticism. It even looks like they are listening since they are trying to reduce spread and started a whole new forum for that. Without people voicing their opinions…that would have never happened and we would be stuck with what they originally released.

I also think that the dude you were replying to had some valid points. He was expecting Brink to live up the SD’s previous efforts like W:ET. SD even mentioned how they had top players from W:ET help them with the game. Why is he a bad guy for then expecting Brink to have gameplay similarities with SD’s previous games? It seems like most people had that expectation. SD knew that. They didn’t come through and are trying to fix it. It’s true you can’t make everyone happy but when you disappoint the majority that is a problem.

Kurushi, this last part isn’t for you. There also isn’t a need to go out of your way to suck up to the devs just because they are posting here. Some people are trying…waaaaayyyy too hard lol. I think you guys know who I’m talking about with their corny jokes that aren’t funny.

(V1cK_dB) #139

Why is ANYONE listening to Wolfnemesis?!! There are several reasons that he stands out.

 1. He NEVER played W:ET so he has no clue to what this game’s potential really is.
 2. He has never designed a map in his life yet he is arguing a losing fight with someone who obviously knows what he is talking about.
 3. He isn’t even good at Brink.

We done yet?

Let’s move on with the discussion.

(tokamak) #140

I wouldn’t mind a devil’s advocate around here. But at least then let it be an advocate that knows what he’s talking about.
