Use that link. It’s a sticky at the top of this forum which will give you all the information you need.
Try planning your map design out on paper first. Have fun.

There are some films over at www.3dbuzz.com and they are free (you need to register - but it is totally free and cool; no hassle).
- Register
- Look for Video Training.
- Watch the films called “Quake III Game Design”
It says Quake III Game Design, but it is the same as mapping for ET.

PS. I use version 1.4 too (GTK Radiant)
1.5 had a lot of bugs but there is no reason why you shouldn’t use it, to me it feels better in general but I do have 1.4 for vertex editing (you will understand that later) as It’s only thing that feels better in 1.4 than in 1.5.
If you follow the tutorials people have linked to you should just do fine but if you ever come stuck on anything search these forums first, there is good chance it has been covered in the past, if this is not the case then just make a new thread with good explanation of what you’re struggling with and you should get the help you require.
IMO if 1.5 had the propper Vertex editing I would use 1.5 only… else I need to use 1.4 from time to time… and that is like all the time lol… SO 1.4 still rules!
IMO 1.5 sucks… I mapped with it for like… 2 weeks, and in that time i had more trouble with it than i had for 2 years with the older versions.
For example, copy/paste entities will fuck them up (the targetname will get a “1” for example).
If you delete entities with brushes, the entity itself mostly stays in the map, invisible, and you will only find out after a 1,5 hour compile when you can finally test your map… or so you thought… (sv_setbrushmodel: null error)
In general, 1.5 imo has no advantages over 1.4 except the texture browser.
i get much better performance on 1.5 witch is very useful when working on large maps and 1.5 is also much nicer for working on newer games like doom3/quake4 especially since vertex editing isnt rely useful in newer games
when mapping i use a combination of 1.4, 1.5 and gameEDIT since i prefer GTKradient but it misses out some essential functionality that you must work in the games default editor to get
