Map coords need to be square...

(system) #1

I got problem with /generatetracemap … If i enter this i see error : Map coords need to be square! Any body can help me?
mapcoordsmins -3328 7872
mapcoordsmaxs 7872 -4160

Those map coords are a rectangle.

Map cords need to be exactly the same,

e.g.

Mapcoordsmins: -7900 7900
Mapcoordsmaxs: 7900 -7900

No…They…Don’t!

You have made a square centered around the origin, but that is not required. Look at goldrush:

“mapcoordsmaxs” “3712 -3584”
“mapcoordsmins” “-4224 4352”

Its quite correct that it doesn’t have to be centered on zero, but it does have to be a square, and sin’s make a rectangle.

I know, but it makes it alot more tidier for people coming into mapping to center their map around the orgin and so then that’ll help, and it doesn’t hurt if your map is centered on the orgin anyway.

If I am correct, one of the bsp-splits will be thru the centre of the coordinate system (origo). So, you might want to align the centre with a long wall. Asuming that you want a split, that runs along the wall.
Not that it is of any major importance. Otherwise you could end up with one split that runs along the wall (IF that wall is structural) and another split just 1 meter to the right (or left) that runs thru origo. Thus creating two splits where one would have been enough.
And, if you havent tried it yet, try the plugin prt-view. It is great. You can see the bsp splits. I’ve used it to move structural brushes (to change the splits).

Simplest method to get your coords is this:

Create a brush in the top view (x/y plane) that covers the whole playing area (note: the playable area no the entire map). Press ‘Q’ to bring up the dimensions on the brush and make sure the side and bottom lengths are the same. Once they are, you can use the coords drawn at the top left of the brush for your mins coord. Now move your pointer to exactly align with the bottom right corner and use the coords in the status bar for your maxs coords. That will make a perfectly square coords shape and will only use the playable area which is important to make sure your command map doesn’t waste space.

Now that is cunning!
Danke!
