map compile time skyrocketed
@nullZilla your map has had problems from the begining. The vis stage should take a few minutes at most…not 34 minutes and certanly not 6 hours.
Are you using a caulk hull? If not what percentage of your total brushes are structural.(it should be a very small percentage). Have you changed the _blocksize key in your worldspawn and are you using hints at all?
Finally post a your compiler output…that could provide some more insight into your problem.
:banghead: Yeah, when I first started, I ran into this problem. Those little detail brushes opened up a new set of rendering triangulations. The question is - what is in that area? Are there alot of brush props laying around that arent detail brushes, but should be? IT really sounds like you created a whole new set of rendering portals. Does that area open up to a larger area, or more complex layout? I would advise you to suck this up to experience, reverse those details back to structural.
In short, think in terms of only closed up boxes. You’ll be alot happier in the end. Are all your brushes properly caulked as well?
Well, that just my humble opinion on the matter. I could be just pissing into the wind. I dont know how experienced you are so, I don’t want to insult you with obvious addages either. Just recounting my first nightmare maps. LOL^_^
Your next nightmare could end up being a vis extents problem.
