Map Basic Requirements

(thegnat) #81

Take a misc_mg42 (it has spawnflags for removing the tripod). If you want to make it constructible, check the samplemaps coming with the LevelDesignersReference.

(Lock Ness Monster) #82

ok, about using the reference to make a constructable oen, i dont understand the scripting at all, so i dont know how to do that, and when i take the misc_mg42, its like there, but not there, i cant grab on and fire it, and when i shot at it my bullets go right through, what properties do u have to give it for it to work?

(dnatrop) #83

can somebody who made the boxmap and can get into limbomenu email it to me cuz whatever i tried my boxmap always freezes when i press L

thank you

(dnatrop) #84

i know many noobs have the same problem i almost killed myself because it didn’t worked
but i made it by filling in the mapcoords by hand

(yourself) #85

i have a different problem then anyone else here it is

error
Error opening C:/Program Files/Wolfenstiend - Enemy Territory/etmain/maps/boxmap.map: Too many open files

this happens when i try to compile my map to .bsp

(JurQ) #86

:disgust: i can’t load textures, where its should be to work in radiant ??

(EB) #87

What version of radiant have you installed and is the game and the editor installed to the default paths ?

CSG is Evil

I’m assuming your talking about CSG actions like subtract. Not true.

In game like UT, the world is solid and every room is simply a CSG subtracted space from the world ‘block’. Using subtract was bad for this when you used it on something in already subtracted space - like cutting a window in a wall that seperates a large room. In this case you would have a ‘subtracted area brush’ that would modify the wall brush… basically an extra brush you dont need if you put four wall pieces together to form a window.

In the Radiant engine, it is exactly opposite. The world is empty and everything is added. Every time you create a brush, you are in effect CSG adding. Subtracting from a brush does not create an extra brush like the UT engine, it simply splits up the parent brush into pieces.

While perfectly fine for cutting a window in a simple square wall, sometimes it can make a mess; when subtracting a hexagon across the faces of a triangle for example… you can end up with a ton of brush pieces being created on the triangle that you might have done manually with much fewer. Most walls are not simple squares, usually consisting of multiple borders, extrusions, and slopes… CSG subtract might not be the best idea in these situations.

well ive done everything right and when i load q3map2.exe i come up with this error: Usage:C\Programfiles\GtkRadient-ET-1.3\q3map2.exe[generaloptions][options]mapfile

?? anyone know how to fix?

(Flippy) #90

CSG substract is definately evil

Even for cutting out a square window out of a rectangular wall. It does not create the ‘seams’ between the brushes in an optimal way meaning you will have more tris in that area. Now for one window it doesn’t matter at all, but suppose you have a whole village built this way… you will definately notice that in FPS.

(kamikazee) #91

Als, CSG Substract may create tiny brush fragments which mess up VIS compiles.

(Stattie) #92

so how do i fix my problem? fixed it

(kamikazee) #93

You start Q3Map2 incorrectly. Are you using GTKRadiant, some frontend like Q3Map2 or do you use ye olde batch files?

It’s probably a wrong parameter which confuses Q3Map2.

(Stattie) #94

Yay my box of hell is done thnx for the help

(Franz) #95
