This is the problem I was having:

The whole sky was smeared. It reminded me of something that happens in Worldcraft when a cell is not portalled off to the outside world properly and smears your skybox all over when you move your mouse (at least it does that in Swat 3 anyways).

I am happy to say everything works now :slight_smile:

I am not sure what exactly I did to fix it but I won’t complain when the mapping gods favor me.

Say you created a large wall…and down the line u wanted to put a window there…wouldn’t it be easier to simply cut it out? Or do you really have to delete the whole thing and make seperate brushes for everything? And what about making a hole through a mountain that you’ve made in easy gen?

I just found this uit yesterday, you create the brush where you want the hole in, then you make another brush with the size of the hole. You put brush 2 through brush 1 en click CSG Substract.

hey everyone. ive been lurking here for a little while and messing around with radiant trying to just do the tutorial, but so far the whole experience has been very

My main problem is this. I’ve followed the various ttorials about 4 or 5 times, each time starting afresh and following them to the letter. But whenever i run ET and try to view my map, everytime, without fail, i get this error

Now is this a map error? or an ET error ?

Im so f@#$ing confused, and frustrated

any help would be muchely appreciated

CSG stands for Constructive Solid Geometry…or simply, the act of creating more complex geometry from simple primitives like a box, a sphere, a cone, etc. The primitives are either “added” or “subtracted” together, or etc. In radiant, they seem to support Merging, Subtracting and Hollowing. In other 3D programs, like Lightwave 3D (the one I’m familiar with), they call it Boolean CSG with 4 different operations: Union, Intersect, Subtract and Add.

I am very new to mapping, and so I just want to thank everyone in this thread for sharing your questions and knowledge. Anyways, there was a question about creating holes, and IMHO, using the CSG’s is probably the way to go. I use it quite often in Lightwave, so I expect to be using it in radiant.

3 Words.
CSG is Evil.

It looks all nice etc, but what you don’t relise is that behind that nice easy to use feature is a vindictive evil option.

Always create everything, brush by brush and REMEMBER to CAULK the ENTIRE brush when you make it. Then once you’ve created the area you want, go back and select the brush faces and texture those (Ctrl + Shift + Left Click). If you get into your map and you come across an area that is all shivery and really weird and errie, its because what you’re veiwing is Caulked.
What Caulk does is say, "Hey boy! I’m with the game engine! You boy are not allowed to see me naked!

Use caulk on all brushes EVERYWHERE the player WILL NOT be able to see.

i coppied yer test1.map, compiled it with your list of the three steps to compiling, and typed in console

/developer 1
/devmap test1

still cant find test1.bsp

wowsers. im pulling whats left of my hair out

In what folder is the the test1.bsp located?
cause it should be in the etmain/maps folder

yes, my map folder is in the etmain/maps directory

i compiled first with the meta, then vis, then vis fast

i have in my maps directory a
test1.map
test1.bsp
test1.bak
test1.srf

in console, i type in

/g_gametype 2
/sv_pure 0
/devmap test1

and i always get this dam message saying it cant locate the test1.bsp map

very interesting thought id let people know how i fixed my problem here.

it seems if i use the command /devmap goldrush first

then go back to console and /devmap {the map i created}

it wil now load

can anyone explain this?

I think you should know that anyone using a 3 button mouse will find this tuturial impossible?I tried for ages but got know where, until i went to preferences and changed my mouse from 3 button to 2 button!!Thanks all the same m8s,the info you offer is heaven sent to first time ET wanna be biulders like me. But im sure noobs like me will find this tip very helpfull
