Making the move to 20 point games...which toon to buy?

(misterskippy) #1

So I’ve been playing exclusively on 14-point matches so far, and think I’m ready to start exploring 20-point matches (and challenges now). But I think I’d like to upgrade my team with a new addition before I go there.

The only question is which toon to get (I have about 100k coins right now)?

Besides my commander, I currently have – Dave, 2 snipers and 1 medic.

Any suggestions?

and u have dave. that’s more than enough already and ur squad sounds pretty balanced too.
i beated all the challenges with only 4 toons without medic.
there was an announcement saying that they will tell us about some new things to add to the game like new maps new weapons new characters, so i will wait and see if there are any nice toons soon.

Yep totally forgot about Dave, thanks Ranger! I guess I could always hold onto my coins for now and see how it goes.

Ok to make a round and clean post here
here are some tips on what you should take care of, what setups are “ok” and general information about 20pt games

20pt games are more open than 14 pt games
there are more good setups and less bad setups.

the geneal decission you have to make here is :
do you want weapon power or special ability power?

for experienced players I suggest special ability power - the problem here is - once you used the special ability your very much grounded to the basic - 4squad-point weapons - with about 7 - 10 dmg/energy
that means you HAVE to kill at least 1 foe with the special abilities or get an overwhelming amount of damage to all opposing toons.
some examples: commander(cold +artillery+health crate) + kate (cold ) + archie (cold) + dave (knife) + kate (cold) = 5units *4squad points
quite lame strategy. your instant damage output is archie but he - in my opinion - is only usable with cold audomatic
your dave goes rambo - throw grenade to pushback (archie arrows at that unit) and in the next turn rush and attack some. but you can also use him as defenseunit.
the good thing about this setup - you have plenty of heal (kate+kate+crate) AND quite a lot dmg over time and some burst .
if you HAVE killed 1 unit without bringing you in a bad position you have 5 units vs 3 - these 3 still have good weapons.
the bad thing is - if the enemy has enough heal and you do NOT kill 1 enemy with your abilites you have pistols vs sniper rifles and assault rifles.

the other option is
firepower
mainly you go for
commander (2 abilites . I suggest health crate/blockade and artillery) + 2x sniper of your choice + 1kate with awuga 6-gun or something close to that
everything WITHOUT heal is instant dead vs the setup above - because 2x poison does ~200dmg

here you focus on your gun power, even if the abilities are gone you still do a lot of dmg.

2 other options that still may be added to the above

the tank version - mainly in “gun power” - just 3 guys with 300 health (ivan + juan + marx as example) to tap the center field and stay there or simply jsut as always

or the blockade version
when you start at train station
commander (health crate + blockade) (hoo-hah ar) + megan (stumpington SG ) +kate (awuga 6-gun) + character of your choice with weapon of choice
you RUSH the center and block “all” ways with bloackades, health crates ( use them mainly to block the way) and Mines.
this setup rules vs slow setups on that map (still - if YOU start)
the enemy mainly has to attack your health crates, bloackes and take the mines to finally get into the center before you win and you then have to rip him appart with the stumpington, awuga and whatever :9

I repeat : these are just examples
there are other setups that work perfectly (commander +suds+ suds+ angela merci) … but they need even more “skill”

hope it helps

with friendly regards
