i searched forum ,google and sticky tut
i cant find the answer i need :frowning:

Yes. And there is a pretty simple solution. It’s FATE. Fairly simple to use and quite powerful too. Unfortunately it never got ready, but it’s useful though.

There is also the ā€œmanualā€ approach. That one relies on two GTKRadiant 1.4 features: vertex editing and ā€œaxis lockā€.

You create your pattern of triangles first, then restrict movements of the terrain to the Z axis by clicking the X and Y buttons. That way, you can only drag the terrain’s vertices up and down when you need to alter the height of the terrain.

You could try ā€œFATEā€ its a good tool but it lags a bit for big terrain :cyclops:

I can’t download FATE on the server that’s standing above… :?

I d still use EasyGen for good terrain, because its simple, fast and efficient.
This is the best and most quick tutorial I know for EasyGen. Both TheRiver II and TheRiver II Redux have terrain done with EasyGen, and then manually tweaked a bit.

If you dont want EasyGen, do your terrain by hand, check out my map Warbell for completely handmade terrain.

(VossieJr) #7

You created warbell with ownmade terrain?? :o

But because I’ve got windowsVISTA I can’t use easygen eather… :frowning:
so that’s why i need to try to find an other way… besides with triangles

I once read about makeing terrain from simple patch mesh… this is also an idea… IDK about its efficeincy… but… you can try it…

Make a BIIIIG brush and than hit Curve->Simple Patch Mesh

Than from there you get a plane…

Hit V

and start editing your terrain…

BUT I still recomend just manual aproach… makes it really BEST…
I did it… and terraing of 4096x4096 was ready affter 1.5 hrs… with Dot2Prod Textureing

Fate gives you nice fading and it does it automatically. You can make just a few clicks and you have made a nice terrain. Remember to make the triangles big enough, so you wont have like 20000 brushes!

how? i have fate myself. i dont see any texture fadings?
:?

(TNR360) #13

I do what kamikazee said

For DotProd2 I have a few questions… which version of radiant do you use?

I can tell you in a few steps what to do… so u get started with that stuff… it is really greate… whatever anyone other sais… I think this is the best way to make nice and predictable terrain textures :stuck_out_tongue:

I am not a guru in that tho… but I will get you started… if you want that.
