Okay - create a directory, for example ‘original’, in My Documents or wherever (doesn’t matter as long as you can find it). Unzip pak0.pk3 from your ETMAIN directory to that directory. By default, WinZip will retain the directory structure inside the .pk3 - then look for the directory named ‘sound’ - inside there are all the original sounds.

Browse through, take note of the ones you want to change - 11a.wav for example. Then create a directory elsewhere named ‘sound’ , and place your replacements in there. Make a zipfile in the directory below your new ‘sound’ directory, and zip the entire new sound directory into it. Rename the file whatever.pk3 and it should be ready to go. (When you have it open in winzip, the PATH column should show ‘/sound’)

That said, the name of the .pk3 should be something alphabetically after pak0.pk3 - begin the filename with q-z …as far as I can tell, ET searches the .pk3 files alphabetically and uses the sounds from the last one it encouters. Sounds must be .wav format, and I would recommend in most cases using at least 22khz sampling…some sounds are okay at 11khz, many aren’t.

Also, you will only hear the soundpack IF the server has it installed, OR if the server is impure. If a server doesn’t have your soundpack, and is running pure, all you get are the default sounds.

Hope it helps,

Thanks man that Helps alot…what Program is the Best to do this I Use PakScape is that good or is there a better one?..And do i have to use the Same File names Like 57a. or can they be renamed?

(Superfreak) #4

I just use WinZip…all a .pk3 file is is a renamed .zip

Yes, you have to use the same file names - it’s the only way the game knows which sound goes with what

k Thanks thats Hella Easier then the one I was useing…lol…do i have to put all the old Vsays in there to or is the game just gonna read the couple of new ones and then the Default ones…if that makes sence because i just got 6 new ones but i still wanna hear the ones that i didnt replace…

Just put in the ones you change - any that are ‘missing’ from that .pk3, the game will use the ones from pak0.pk3 (original sounds)

PakScape is the best, WinZip and WinRAR can sometimes lose the directory structure, and with PakScape you can make PK3 files.

a pk3 file is the same damn thing as a zip, the output will be almost completely identical.
