Make "I need ammo" more obvious

(Viquel) #1

Today, I had a terrible streak of skyhammers that just won’t part with their ammo packs. Maybe it’s because I get better and don’t die so often, which makes me run dry eventually…

In any case, v-2-2 should trigger the small ammo-symbol, and I would really love to see ammo-stations (kira’s and the map’s) marked too.

When I resort to begging in teamchat, I usually get neither response nor ammo. A few times I get the tip to play skyhammer myself, you wouldn’t run out of ammo then. Other times I get vote-kicked for griefing because I start to block their LoS and knife them. Well, I get to be voted on for being kicked, not as if anyone would ever participate in those things

(DMaster2) #2

Agreed, no one drop ammo no matter how much you shout. Should help a bit.

([GER] eclipsE) #3

By now i usually say with x and then shout like i need ammo at “Posi im on” seems to work quite well mostly

(Aazhyd) #4

Uh, what? There are kick votes that actually kick somebody? I have never seen it.

(Gi.Am) #5

You get a ammo symbol over your head when you are out of ammo and use the v-2-2. IMO the symbol should be auto triggered as soon as someone is down to the last magazine on primary/secondary.
However not simply by calling out for ammo, since quite a few players spam it constantly and as a firesupport I prefer to give my ammo people who are actually in need for it (aside from the free packs I hand out at spawn).

Skyhammers (or any other firesupport) that don’t give out ammo are shooting themself in the foot. Since it will not only reduce their team effectiveness, but also reduce their overall XP and therefore their chance of getting into the top spot.

That said.

You deserved the votekick, Don’t be a Dick it says.

(Jaso) #6

yea … good old ET ammo icons would be nice when u call for ammo

(Yak) #7

Please yes, I have to practically dance on fire supports to get them to pay attention to me. I would like v22 to have an ammo symbol show up on the team health bars in the HUD so it’s more noticeable than chat.

(Amerika) #8

I want Skyhammer and Arty to turn into a slot machine that hit the jackpot when I V22 near them.

(Daergar) #9

For public play I’d love to have an automatic icon that shows up when people are on their last magazine (or some percentage).

I mean we get a “medic cross” for people in need of healing, surely this could work the same.

(Ghosthree3) #10

It does this, if you’re a support merc.

(Viquel) #11

See, I’m not sure they hog their ammo on purpose. They just don’t give a crap, don’t know that they can do it, or love me see crying for ammo.

I play my fair share of skyhammer, and barely do I ever see the ammo-symbol. It either pops up if they are really completely dry, or they have to v-2-2 in addition to trigger it. I never saw useless v-2-2 spam, just someone frustrated that he need to knife people now since both weapons are empty (or the secondary is a revolver, I hate those.)

(masterfulTrapezoid) #12

symbols for people out of ammo or nearly out of ammo should indeed be more eye catching maybe allowing us to make them bigger or different colors ?. the symbols seems to get lost in the chaos of battle

(Fuze) #13

The real problem comes from players who don’t understand that ammo mercs aren’t assault mercs. Stop completely focusing on pushing the front and dedicate some time to resupplying your teammates… Seriously! A good ammo merc player will drop ammo ASAP off cooldown, not just to aid their team but to point farm. There’s no reason not to drop ammo when you’re not in immediate danger.

(Aazhyd) #14

I got the impression some newer players think the ammo is only for themselves.

(capriRocket) #15

the same goes for medic calls. the voices of v21 and v22 are just way too quiet, nobody hears that and nobody pays attention to the chat or symbols.
even better than the ammo symbol would be a text above my head saying NEEDS AMMO/ NEEDS MEDIC.

(XavienX) #16

Most of the time, the Skyhammers are noobs playing, which make it even more frustrating. I think there should be more indication for whether a teammate needs health or ammo to make it more obvious, not just ammo/health indication on top of their heads which will be hard to spot during the midst of battle.

(Dirmagnos) #17

Ive been thinking about small scripting addon to game, similar as it was possible to do in ET. Eg when certain conditions are met, automated response is generated.
Example: if “health” “below” “30” “%” “say” “Need a medic!”
It can be ammo or health, values could be adjusted, it could be a message of a sign(like yellow when player is down to 1 clip and red when hes out of ammo for primary), etc

I don’t see myself in the situation often where a medic ignores me. Sure, you have a scrub every so often who looks at you and wanders away, or a helping-up Sparks (seriously, REVIVR isn’t explicit enough), but the actual health-pack dropping works fine.

Sawbonez players don’t know about the bonus for direct hit, they drop it (intentionally!) next to me very often, that needs ingame hints.

Also, Aura’s station could use a marker, it’s often hard to find it if it’s hidden and the groudn effect doesn’t properly work.

Skyhammer is damn close to assault though, especially indoors. The marker isn’t nearly as effective as a proper grenade, but it flushes them out or damages them enough to turn the tides.
Generally yes, it would be great if they automatically dropped ammo, but then you would have to ask the fourth Vassili if he really thinks that this is going to help, and the bushwhackers if defusing/planting C4 and repairing wouldn’t hurt their camping-fun too much.

Yes, Skyhammer is very close to being an assault merc and so is Stoker. However, they both have a duty that goes beyond killing a bunch of dudes and that is what people who play these mercs need to realize. Same goes for Phoenix being closer to an assault than the other medics because of his easy to use self-heal and self-revive. But that doesn’t mean he gets to run around not healing teammates just because he can act like a tank. In short, people are noobs… They need to stop being noobs… That is all.
