MAC vis compile times with 2.5.11 & reapeating textures

Hi,

Ok, I’m asking this question for a friend who uses a Mac (OSX) for mapping in Wolf, I would
really like to help him, because he has put a lot of effort into helping me get our
WildWest mod running on a Mac …

Here is the post he made on the TramDesign forums:

Man I am getting frustrated. I have been having texture problems after compiling since I started using radiant. Sometimes it works, most of the time it doesn’t. I continue to get 4X4 tiled textures on everything I make.

To make matters worse, I tried compiling from command line only to have it compile super duper slow. After 4 hours of waiting, and having the count go from 2…3…4… I gave up on it. (by the way, my map is tiny) The -meta part compiled fine but it was as I tried to do a -vis compile.

The reason why I was doing this is because there was someone else on a mac that was having the same problems but he figured out a way to solve them by using command line instead of the bsp menu in radiant. http://www.map-center.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=2200

Ok, so now I go back and try and use the bsp menu, and it gets really slow just like the command line method at the same spot and would take 24hours to compile a tiny map. ARGH!

I am out of ideas…sorry for the rant.

mmm for some reason you can’t see the link in the above quote:

NOTE: the thread the above link goes to will probably explain his situation better

I asked he could try a compile of beach, to which he said that was the same, I also
asked which version of Q3map2 he was using… his reply:

I am using q3map2 v2.5.11
It came packaged with the latest version of Radiant, 1.4. I had these texture problems in the past though to, when I was using version 1.3 of radiant. However, what makes things more confusing is that on my laptop, I did everything the same, but things compiled properly. Of course, it took longer because it is an old G3.

So are there any Mac users out there that can help him ?
Is this a bug with Q3map2 for Mac’s ?
Is this a Radiant bug ?

Thanks for reading.

Bump.

Just seeing if anyone has any idea what’s going on with this. Thanks in advance.

Anyone on PC tried to compile the map? VIS compile CAN be very long. It depends on VIS-blocking, structural, detail brushes. Even a small map can take ages to compile if VIS wasn’t taken into account when creating/planning the map in the first place.

I don’t know how experienced that mapper is, so, sorry if that’s not the issue.

Well, the mapper was me.

Vis wasn’t truly taken into account with this last map because it was basically a small box. However, I tried compiling mp_beach and my other first map which I have compiled many times in the past. What’s strange is that when I do the bsp through the radiant menu, I get a complete compile, but…my textures are messed.

This has been kind of an ongoing issue since I first started mapping last year on my mac. The first problem I had was when I used the bsp menu in radiant all of my textures would be tiled 4X4 no matter how I moved them or fitted them in radiant. So…I searched all over and finally ran across the same problem a guy was having in the map center forums (also on a mac). He explained to me that if he compiled using command line everything seemed to work out fine. See here: http://www.map-center.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=2200

I upgraded to the latest version of radiant that is available for the mac and tried this command line method. When I do a q3map2 -game wolf -meta, everything works out fine. However, when I try and do any other type of compile I can’t seem to get it to work, everything just hangs. I found that there had been a missing dll that people on PCs were having problems with, so I thought maybe that might be the case. However, I have no q3map2 folder to put dll’s into because I am using the q3map2 that came with this version of radiant.

Thanks for any help!
