Low Reward/Experience Trainer Servers

(Whoisthis) #1

So I haven’t been playing Dirty Bomb very long and I’m learning new tricks and passages everyday, but the learning curve is steep on the Pubs I play in. I would think that most high level/hardcore players would play competitive but I don’t find that the case. Last night I played a game where a level 25 and 19 basically murdered everyone in less than 3 minutes in and won the match against mostly level 6s and lower. This really takes the fun out of matches because you really don’t learn anything in a match like that because there is no time to learn. I kept wondering why they even played and I thought maybe they had a mission of finish 2 objective matches they were running close on or something. It would be nice if there were a “trainer” servers where maybe you get reduced experience and credits but that you would be playing with other new players and practicing. I’m just throwing ideas out here because I think it is hurting the game. As a new player who isn’t that good, earning enough to buy a new merc would take forever so I’m probably going to put down some cold hard cash for some mercs I want. I am also frustrated as a new player that the learning curve is so steep and I wonder how many new players pop on for a couple games and then just drop it because of the difficulty (my cousin already did this). It seems like there should be a system that allows for both play types and works for Nexon too.

There’s max level 5 servers…

Can’t wait for a thread where those 2 are bragging around with 2 sick K/Ds.

OP, your best way to get into competitive and learn is to play with friends/against friends.
But, pubs also have great games sometimes and you can learn there.
I also don’t really get your idea of “trainer servers” The level in DB is just a number that indicates how long you played. It doesn’t indicate skill. I’ve already played with people on Level 4-5 who were excellent players or with level 20+ who were trash. Your best way to get better ist just playing. The skill comes with experience.

The game was built for PC play unlike some other shooters that were built with consoles/controllers in mind. So you have to learn how to have consistent aim over a longer period of time rather than aim center mass and hold for about a quarter second. It just takes time to build up that experience. And levels don’t mean much in this game. I was playing at about the same level when I was level 8 as I am now at almost level 38. This was due to my past history with similar games so I have an experience advantage that let me learn a bit quicker than others who came from other types of games or are new to FPS’s in general.

So, it’s going to be hard if you are new to this type of game or new in general. That’s part of what makes it great. Just pick something you want to get good at and focus on that. For example, try to get good with moving around the map. Learn the trick jumps. Make sure you move with your knife out. Then move on to making sure you always quickly gib bodies with your gun and knife. Then maybe pick an easier gun to learn like Skyhammer with the M4 and try to get consistent with shooting at distances (shoot at walls while in server). Eventually you put enough of the pieces together and suddenly you went from being a pretty low tier player to being a much more competent one overall.

Also, watching good streamers play who also answer questions is a solid way to learn.

Also this. Watching what other people do in certain situation form videos/streams can help to copy those things and get better.

Ugh, same for me, I feel I haven’t really improved since single digit levels. But I get called out for not being even better because of my level - now 36 - all the time. If I top the scoreboard I get called a no lifer, if I don’t top it for whatever reason - like I’m trying a new class playstyle? - I get “lol level 36 still bad”. Wtf.

Would pay to reduce level.

Yeah, I hate levels being displayed. Most people don’t realize a lot of us were playing in the closed beta and levels weren’t reset when open hit so many will comment, usually negative, about levels. They serve no game purpose other than as a token towards progression so I wouldn’t mind them being simply removed personally.

I got a bug yesterdays and was lvl. 1 for 1 game. Got to level 2, sadly no reward :scream:

Yeah I had that once, actually everyone in the server did. Was cool.

I play a lot of TF2. The objectives are of course not nearly as interesting as here but I don’t find the sheer level of venom if you aren’t “l33t”. I’m really put off by a lot of the people I play with here, it’s like a magnet for sociopath behavior. There have been game where I’ve had to turn the sound off and just ignore the text stream because all it was a bunch of insults, racism and worse. This wasn’t directed at me, but I just felt terrible even witnessing it. Unfortunately I don’t have any friends left that play because of this type of stuff. I play because I like the game, but honestly, sometimes I feel like if I could just play with a bunch of bots in singleplayer, I would like it more. Don’t get me wrong, most of the people I play with are polite and friendly, but it seems like 5-10% of players are ruining it. I say that because it seems like there is one every game and sometime 2-3.

You get above level 5 really fast in this game though.

I don’t have the reflexes or the time to get really, really good at this game. I’m probably average. I play a lot of support class to make up for it. That’s true in TF2 also, although I do love me some Pyro
I just wish there was more of a casual gameplay experience that more people could enjoy. I thought playing in Pubs would do that because the good players would play in competitive, but I haven’t found that. The unfortunate thing is that the people I’m mostly trying to avoid are probably in pubs because they get kicked in competitive matches and probably don’t have friends to play with. I’ve been in games where Sparks wouldn’t heal because they were using the gun to get headshots and they didn’t have time to waste on reviving and “bring down their K/D ratio”.

No, people don’t play competitive for multiple reasons: Broken matchmaking that creates unfair games, creates games with unequal teams and the game has almost zero anti-hack protection so that’s where the majority of hackers reside.

There’s zero reason to play competitive at this time. Dirtycups and pubs are our best option. So yea, sometimes I go against a bunch of level 5’s and throttle them. But there’s no other option for me.

But I went through the same thing when I was level 5 in the closed beta. I got railed by players who played the previous beta. But I took the time to learn from them and other resources, as well as making sure my setup was optimal such as tweaking the config to get better FPS and getting a top tier gaming mouse.

If you want to be a casual, you can’t really complain about getting railed by hardcore players - the game was marketed as one that would kick your ass.

Always makes me so sad to hear about Sparks doing that. They need to realize how powerful they are. 79 revives in one objective game once. :stuck_out_tongue:
Finally got my Companion Agent (Gold) today
Up until now, I was using an iron card

I think that there should be Max level 10, 15, 20, etc. servers instead of minimum level 10 servers and the such.

That fragments the player base too much. It would be harder to find full games, especially with friends of varying levels.

People just need to stop placing emphasis on level. If a level 34 drops a 48/6 games on them they feel it’s unfair. If a level 6 does, they feel he’s just really good.

(Jostabeere) #16

Oh god I hate Sparks and everyone who is actively playing her and not healing or reviving and then saying in the chat: “health packs are shit anyway and Revivr is better for headshots” after politely asking why the fuck she didn’t revive.

Tfw only level 30+ player in Aus.

I guess maybe casual is too strong of word, less venomous maybe. I think I found a fix anyway although it kind of sucks. I notice in the US servers if someone tries to kick someone for being vile, it fails then they get kicked (I guess it is some type of Lord of the Flies thing here), but I played in the EU servers tonight and I didn’t find any of that behavior. Unfortunately the ping was high and twice I didn’t get any experience, but it was much more enjoyable. The funny thing is that the advertisement for the game says “Don’t be a dick” and a big red “x” over someone teabagging a kill. I see teabagging all the time on the server by “winning” teams. I guess it all goes back to what I was trying to say in the beginning, I wish there was an enjoyable way to LEARN this game, but now that we’ve had this conversation, I just wish there were an enjoyable way to PLAY it.
