Lost Character Data

Happened to me as a result of freezes, but have been consistently able to reproduce this.

Select a character.
Customize said character.
While on the customize character menu, CTRL+ALT+DEL and close program from task manager.
Restart the game.
During opening publisher video, CTRL+ALT+DEL and close program from task manager.
Restart game.

Upon restart, player will be asked to select faction and all previous character data will be gone.

As I said, this happened to me at first because the game froze during character selection, then when I restarted it I accidentally alt+tabbed from the publisher intro movie and closed the game. Since then I’ve been consistently able to reproduce it using above steps. Maybe its my ****ty computer or my steam is messed up somehow, who knows.:stroggtapir:

Same thing here. I think when I started the game and hit alt F4 during the opening videos screwed it up. When I relaunched, it was asking to save or escape the ark again. And now my character is gone…not cool. There goes three hours of training and unlocking. Boring to do that all over now…

I didn’t have to do any of that. I just closed my game normally and upon relaunching it, my character vanished. There goes a nice 4 hours of time.

Same thing happened to me. Played for a about 5 hours last night, exited game normally no problem, loaded up this morning and all gone.

We are aware of a bug that causes part of the character information to be reset. To avoid the problem for now please do not close the game before it reaches the character creation/selection screen.

Well I noticed the icon next to this thread saying a staff member replied, but there doesn’t seem to be one here. :frowning: I was all excited on an update to this problem.

yeah i just lost my character
i want to play with my friends since they are all playing but kind of not want to start over and end up losing my character again…

I have been defending this game all day, all my friends were giving me **** about buying it. It got the worst reviews and everyone I know only cares about reviews. I am like no guys this game is so fun, the reviews are wrong. I actually love this game its ET all over gain and I loved that game.

But come on characters getting deleted!? thats a bug that should have stopped the game from shipping…

I am sad a pissed I dont got time to make new characters! I can only play like an hour a day. Will there be a way to restore characters? You guys need to support your mistake, and if you knew this bug was in the game which I am sure you did thats lame… I am still going to play but I am not defending this game from its bad reviews anymore. =(

I also lost my Level 20 - every challenge 3 Stars character (13 Hours) sorry but this is a total nogo!

I’m so ****in pissed right now!

This is a gamekiller!

I will not play Brink until this is fixed!

I’ve had this problem also, but I’ve found that if you crash the game out again instead of creating a new character, and then re-load, you can usually get your character back. I say usually - it’s worked every time so far for me, although sometimes it’s taken a few game reboots. I’d imagine creating a new character overwrites your old lost character (slot 1, slot 2, etc).

I <3 ‘finished’ games. I wonder how many copies of Brink are being traded in for LA Noire this weekend.

Happened to me today as well. I am just lucky I only lost 6-7 hours of my time. Hope a solution comes to light soon. Quite reluctant to start a fresh save only for this to occur once more.
