Losing players

(Merc4food) #1

So after trying to get in a populated west coast server, (of which there are two) as to avoid high ping. I get in a game and lo and behold there’s a hacker on the enemy team one shotting people with his SMG. Since you can’t kick people on the opposite team and his friends on his team refuse to kick him I do the only thing I can. So I spend the next 15 minutes reporting him. Still on the same server but the hacker now gone from boredom, 5 minutes into a new game and I get kick for security violation.
So we have an anti-cheat system that doesn’t stop hackers. The same system kicking legit players. No in game reporting system. Oh, and an apparently shrinking player base, not that I can blame them for leaving.

Better reporting system is on the way, but good on you for doing it the long way in this case. Yeah, the security violation kick is annoying (and has ended my play session a couple of times, nobody likes getting kicked in the middle of an epic match) but should be fixed soon, they know it’s a priority. Anticheat has been updated, but as they’ve said, there’s no insta-fix for all cheats, it’s an on going process.

The player base isn’t “shrinking” as such, the game is just new. We had a big surge of players when the game was first hitting open beta and we had a lot of YouTube/stream coverage from various personalities, it’s pretty inevitable that not everyone who tries the game stays. There’s more than enough people to find a match every time I’ve tried to play - not familiar with concurrency of US West servers since I don’t ever have a reason to go to them, but joining a server with only a few other people usually fills up pretty fast.

I should probably save the answers and rebuttals to your moany thread in a .txt. Threads like this comes up often enough. I’ll let someone else who can be arsed to explain. All I can say is “tough it out, deal with it, game is in beta, they’re working on it, things need time to tweak.”

(Amerika) #4

The playerbase is shrinking if you compare it to the huge amount of players who were playing when literally millions of people were emailed invites to the game and a ton of popular YT and Twitch people were showing off the game. You expect the population to surge then you hope that a few people out those who tried the game stick around. People trying to compare numbers without factoring between then and now and not factoring in a ton of other reasons are simply looking at it wrong.

And yes, in-game reporting is coming pretty soon. The AC that is crashing for some people will most hopefully be fixed in the next patch (next week) and no AC will prevent all cheating. So you will still see cheaters in every single game because there is no way to prevent it entirely…you just try to keep it from flooding servers is all and keep honest people honest.

It’ll probably get closed soon enough.

I just hope it doesn’t end like Evolve, which is a good game and baaarely holding on…

Well Evolve shot themselves in the foot with their pricing scheme, so I doubt it’ll end up like that hilarious mess.

so what OP meant was: hacker in my game, i’m angry, gonna write rant on forum saying game is bad so Nexon gives me compensation for my troubles but I will secretly continue to play

Looking at steam charts over the past month, there is a definite decline in the average number of players playing. Yes, there was a large increase and then a large drop when open beta began, and again when the youtubers were paid by Nexon to promote the game. But you can’t deny that since then, player numbers are slowly and steadily dropping.

Normally for a game in beta you would be hoping for a slow and steady growth after the inital surge, not the other way around.

DB isn’t mainstream shooter and you can see it on the graphs. Many players probably found out that this game is about skill and stopped playing. I’m sure it will find more players eventually. Or hope.
FPS shooters evolved, if you can call it that. And majority of todays fps players only see games like CoD/BF/CS, because of a huge ‘hype’ around them. They got used to them and now they somehow refuse to play something like DB or I don’t know.
But I understand how hard it is to make a game like this and I think it’s unfair towards devs. This game deserves more. Way more.

its hard trying to “modernize” a genre that really hasn’t been around for 10+ years. Most of the core that this game should appeal to, the old ET/RTCW players, are grown with kids and other adult responsibilities (if they game at all anymore).

Honestly, can you blame him? A hacker can completely ruin the experience of the game, especially when you’ve got to go to such lengths to try and stop him. I was in the same game. 3/5 people on the team were voting to kick, but he had one friend that voted no so we could never get rid of him. eventually he got another friend and then we couldn’t get past a 3/3 vote against him. Literally everything was working for him, not against him, and that sucks as a legit player. I should also mention that the friend I had spent ~15 minutes just filling out all the information for the report, some of which wasn’t even relevant to the game we were playing.
Before you imply anything else, I’ve got ~300 hours and I’m around level 22. I’ve run across a few hackers and it’s always the same deal. Only been able to successfully kick a hacker once.

(Demolama) #15

Most of the hackers that I’ve seen on objective servers usually only stick around for one map and then leave at the end of it; so the matches usually end pretty quickly. The only upsetting thing I find about that situation is if the incident was on a map I really wanted to play, ruining my chance to actually play it again for a while since you can not vote to replay the same map.

I saw a new cheat last night. This guy was playing kira with some kind of speed cheat. His Kira was hovering and moving very fast. The character was not animating, it was just standing up straight and zipping around the map. When I got into a fire fight with his Kira, she was not even touching the ground, she was in hovering a few feet in the air. This was not a rag doll glitch, because it kept happening. She was moving so fast that nobody could hit her, but she was able to head shot people at will.

im beginning to think some players discovered ways to summon the splinterman…
