Looking for 1st merc to buy

(cheekyPillar) #1

Hi and good evening!

I’m newbie, started just 2 days ago and I’ve almost 50k coins right now.
I play mostly Fragger (has good enough loadout) and Skyhammer (when I really need his skill, havn’t any good loadouts).
Now I want to buy merc and would know your opinion about my types.

 • Fragger - depends how long ‘free rotation’ will last. If I’m right this is first free rotation (game just went into open beta, doesn’t it?)
 • Bushwhacker - his turrets are great idea, but he is rare (in objective mode) merc, so I don’t know mechanics of his gear very well. How about his and his turret damage?
 • Nader - the greatest unknown quantity and the most interesting too. I saw her only one time in opposite team and really don’t know anything about her. It is weird that player dies when uses her skill (Martyrdom) - is she worth death?
 • Vasili - cheap, with great skill, but how hard is in-game? I mean how precise and accurate you have to be, to be good sniper in this game? Sometimes I don’t get how they can kill me so perfectly, and sometimes they (snipers) are like a kids in kindergarten.

Could you tell me about my speculations and these mercs?
Hope you understand what I meant in this post via my broken english :persevere:

i bought Bushwhacker as my first merc and i’m not disappointed yet, the problem is that you need to find a good spot to put down his turret and you tend to chew through ammo like crazy but that’s to be expected when you are using an smg, as from the Vasili’s i’ve seen in game is that you have to be good with his sniper and to be honest there are already way too many snipers, fragger has a great lmg if u learn to burst fire it medium to long range it’s quite effective but his nade is a bit weird atm where it seems that it never hits anything and bounces of friendlies all the time, Nader has great nade spam ability if you like stuff like that

I’d actually suggest Proxy.

Fragger’s description says he’s a player killer, and that is not a lie. He’s good, and easy.
Bushwhacker can attack and defend pretty well but his guns are suck and his turret is slow to turn and has little health.
Nader is a lame version of Fragger who is most likely going to get nerfed one of these days, so stay away.
Don’t play Vasilli. He looks like a school shooter and he doesn’t help the team unless you get all headshots. (Unlikely)

The current free rotation started, what, two days into the open beta? I think it should last another week or so.

Bushwhacker is pretty solid. If you don’t see him around, it’s probably because most people don’t have access to him - and tend to choose mercs they think are OP when they get to buy something. I wouldn’t be surprised if he went on rotation with Rhino next week though.

Nader is not as easy to play as she looks. I mean, if your opponents know what they’re doing. If your opponents don’t know what they’re doing, you can frag for days.

My advice would be to hold off on buying someone until this rotation is over, see who comes on, and try to decide then. There’s nothing like buying a merc that comes on rotation, and deciding you don’t even like them.

EDIT: There’s also new mercs coming every two weeks ( or has been, so far ), so no reason you have to buy one of the current ones. A lot of exciting ones coming up.

Pick Fragger: you know you like him, he is a powerhouse both in casual and competitive, free rotation is probably going to change soon; maybe even this week.

I wouldnt pick mercs you didnt manage to try out yet, unless you really like their playstyle, so you can wait with the rest of the buddies for when they are in free rotation

Thanks a lot for your replies!
I found ‘news’ about free rotation, but devs didn’t mention in it how long lasts one rotation, so I wasn’t sure about Fragger. If it is one week, I probably pick him.

You guys made me little sad saying Nader isn’t worth to buy right know for 1st merc.

About Buckwhacker - yea, his turret is like one-shot, but if you put it out in right place it can be deadly, imho.

About Proxy - nah, I’m not into mines, she uses shotguns, which I’m not keen on.

So, probably, I will get 50k (I need just 500coins) and wait for next free rotation. But I’m so excited right know…
Thank you guys again, but it isn’t closed topic; if you wanna share your experience feel free to do that.

I just want to mention this: Nader is a blast to play, and I love her. She just isn’t as powerful as these forums might lead you to believe, and nowhere near as easy to play ( well ). In 8v8, you can spam her grenades for days and probably score some kills. In smaller matches, you’re going to need precision she just doesn’t offer. Unlike Fragger.

Puns for days.

Anyways, WAIT FOR FREE ROTATION. I have an idiot friend who decided to buy Proxy as his first merc. He has less than 10 hours in the game, and had no clue what Proxy even does. Just wait for the free rotation, and try as many people as you can until you become impatient with waiting, or fall in love.

However, I can say who not to buy…
-Arty, he is just straight up weak right now, unless you happen to be the most accurate person in the world at landing headshots. honestly don’t bother with him.
-Kira, because while she’s really cool, and lasers, she is just a slightly stronger Arty at the moment, and is relatively hard to play. Don’t buy her, until you have a good knowledge of maps n stuff.
-Rhino, because he is a bullet magnet, and I assume also boring compared to other mercs. Don’t buy if you’re new, because you’re better off buying mercs that fulfill different roles at first, so you can find a niche. Rhino is better off for more experienced players who know when it’s time to go big shooty man, and already have experienced all the other mercs.

I bought Proxy first, Vassili next and probably Fragger will be following. I tend to buy mercs that are different from what I already have. That’s why I skip Arty and Kira, too much the same as Skyhammer.

Proxy also uses smgs, and she is quite powerful with the right smg.

Proxy only has access to the Hochfir ( as a primary ). It’s probably a moot point, as I think that’s the ideal one for her. Still. Other SMGs she has are all secondaries ( and still damn good ).

EDIT: Also note mines can be used to devastating effect offensively. If you introduce yourself by chucking a mine at an enemy and shooting the mine, not many mercs will still be standing.

(seashellPond) #13

Knowing how hard or slow is cradit farming, im waiting for new mercs to drop out. For while i have free rotation and if anything goes bad, there is always skyhammer around :stuck_out_tongue: (Also got proxy as first buy, nice with Hochfir)

(Grave_Knight) #14
-Kira, because while she’s really cool, and lasers, she is just a slightly stronger Arty at the moment, and is relatively hard to play. Don’t buy her, until you have a good knowledge of maps n stuff.
That’s not fair. Kira is alot more interesting than Arty (and definitely more than “slightly” stronger). Her ammo station more than makes up for lack of firepower in Underground, and her laser is more than a fire and forget (found out the painful way it can move with the laser designator).

And with an Aura/Kira combination you can pretty much bunker down anywhere.

(Szakalot) #15

she IS hard to play though and I would not recommend her for new players.
