Looking: ET Map Tutorial

(nightchaser) #1

My ET name is Nightchaser and I am currently with the clan, Raising Suspicion. I would like to create a map, but I am not great on the scripting and entities. I’m not completely noob on those subjects, but I’m not great at them. I have a great math background and graphics background. I have looked high and low for a good tutorial. So my question is, “Can someone point me in the right direction to find a fully functional map-making tutorial that is step-by-step (or something simple) so that I may pick up the use of GTKRadiant?” Thanks for your time and help.

Yeah, I saw that, but the only good tutorial is one that makes a simple box. I did that but when I used /devmap to test it, it said it couldn’t find it. Not to mention a lot of those links are broken and out-of-date.

Possibly anEasygen tutorial in english. I keep making a landscape and everytime i try to compile it in radiant i keep getting the Backwards tree volume error or it will just freeze and it will make me close the program with that freakin error reporting crap. But yea video tutorials would be a good idea.

(psyco_mario) #6

Sorry, but i havnt used Easygen before, anything else you would like a tutorial on?

(nightchaser) #7

yeah, just a basic map with basic objective stealing…i just want to get a feel for gtkradiant. So maybe a basic map, couple of buildings and a capturable objective.

Right, ill start a few tutorials on basic objectives!

This is my own opinion but I believe someone could make decent money writing and selling a COMPLETE howto book on mapping.

Everything from simple making a box all the way to creating custom sky textures.
Information on terrain, scripting, command maps, objectives, movers, etc.

I tell you, I would pay at least $50 for such a book.

I know that most of this information is “out there” but I spend countless hours searching for what I need whilst an index at the back of some all knowing book would really speed things up.

I have recently been looking to ModWiki. It currently houses topics about the Doom 3 Engine, Doom3 and Quake 4.

The nice thing about it is that you get all facts in 1 place, all links should point right, etc. And if there is an error, it doesn’t need a new post like it is the case here, you would just edit it yourself.
