BRINK is definitely not for the SP-only crowd, but I’m sure it will attract more dudes like me, who, while less interested in standard competitive multiplayer, love CoOp/Team VS stuff like Left 4 Dead.

I believe the barrier is more likely CPU restraints more than anything else. You think Brink could run an advanced AI model 15 times at 30FPS on top of game? This is like the argument for raytracing graphics, it’s just better to use the GPUs to model stuff that looks good and real rather than model realistically but with poor results and slowly.

Maybe once physics has matured to the level we see with graphics the GPU designers will start putting AI specific cores on the chips too.

Sockdog is wise (last 2 posts).
Also, when ETQW was released, I believe the guy who primarily wrote the bot AI was a contract id employee, not a SD employee. People have forgotten this I think. Maleficus was his game name iirc, and I think he wrote the Fritz bots for RTCW. SD may have had to start from scratch on the bot AI for legal reasons if they were unable to hire him or contract him.
If I have the right person, he did a great job in ETQW. Haven’t played Brink so I don’t know about that yet.
