-lomem

(stephanbay) #1

Hi,

I noticed that since i tried the -lomem in light phase, my compile time went from 2hours to 15minutes.im just impressed and would like to know if that is normal ? its too fast lol (was used to wait longer). I have 1gig memory and q3map2 never really reached this limit.

That’s rather weird. This was without other options changing? Ordinarily, -lomem trades off speed against reducing memory usage, so it should be slower with -lomem.

exactly what i tought but seems to make it faster for me. no other options has changed.

Back to the lomem

I am still tripping and experimenting the lomem switch. I have got a weird conclusion :

I used the same map with 3 different light switches :

case 1 :

-light -fast : 320 sec
-light - fast -lomem : could have take days

case 2 :

-light -fast -samples 2 : 380 seconds
-light -fast -samples 2 - lomem : could have take days

case 3 :

-light -fast -dirty : 2 hours
-light -fast -dirty -lomem : 30 minutes

Conclusion

-lomem did a great job when used with -dirty. a gain of time up to 1hours and half for my case
