Local rumble effects?

(ConchMan) #1

i know how to create a global rumble, but is there a way to make a locally felt rumble?

if a rumbling starts, a person close to the center of a rumble feels the rumble more than a person who is further away. also, the person who is closer starts experiencing the rumble before the person who is further away.

if i wanted to create the same experience so that as i gradually near a rumble target i feel the rumble more (ie. my display shakes more), where would i start? ET tends to have large enough environments to be able to notice this effect. is it possible for ET?

When I tried it out in RTCW you couldn’t do local.
I doubt it was updated in ET :frowning:

Just out of curiosity, what are your entity keys? I’m about to want to do a global rumble and if I recall setting up the entity is a pain in the arse.

Actually, you could possibly fake it with mortars - like on RTCW beach - you can’t control the parameters of the rumble, but it’s local.

i have a trigger_objective_info targetting my target_rumble. the target_rumble has the following keys:

targetname: 3rd_flak_cannon
spawnflags: 1
duration: 2.5
yaw: 3
pitch: 3
rampup: 1
rampdown: 1

it’s felt anywhere on my map once the objective blows and it’s subtle.

if i use a shooter_mortar to make my ‘local rumblings’ how do i stop the mortar from damaging players? Can I use this mortar indoors or must it lob into the sky? i’ve got a crumbling building that needs periodic local rumbles.

Thanks for that.

Not a clue how to make a mortar not hurt someone directly, but you could possibly build your whole ‘rumbler’ in a tiny room directly below the house, that would hopefully still be felt and not be able to hurt anyone.
Extending this, you could come up with a local rumble prefab that you could place around your map.

It’s all theory, but I can’t see why it wouldn’t work (he said hopefully).
