Loc.dat file... What is it?

(Flippy) #1

Hi,

I am writing some basic ‘Help’ information about certain subjects in my Pk3Creator application, when I came across a “_loc.dat” file (for example in the Adlernest pk3 file under maps).

What is this file? It seems to be the file that tells ET the name of your current location (“Back Hall”, “Basement”, “Allied Spawn”, etc…) but I can’t seem to find any of these files for the standard maps.

Is this ETPro only maybe?

How are they generated?

Thanks!

This thread will help you understand.

Edit: and this one and the WolfWiki

Not really, sorry :stuck_out_tongue:

So the loc.dat files do nothing for etmain? So why are they in some pk3 files such as Adlernest? Perhaps so the user can manually extract that file and put it in his etpro folder somewhere…?

from the WolfWiki:

target_locations on exisitng maps are saved into an external file named maps/(mapname)_loc.dat. They are generally located outside of a .pk3, but this is not a requirement. If a file named maps/(mapname)_loc_override.dat exists, it will be read instead — this allows individual players or clans to override or add locations, even if the map or a .pk3 contains a location file.

Cool, thanks!
