Loadout Showcase and High Pings

(m0) #1

I get that things are still being fleshed out, but please give me the option to remove the merc showcase at the beginning of the match… its just one more thing that I have to sit through. I takes a long time to find a match, then I have to watch the showcase, then I have to be in a warm up, then I have to watch the objectives being explained for the 1000th time. Its too much.

Also, my pings are always too high in match making games. Give me the option to only play in games with 50 or less. I dont want 60, I dont want 80. I sure as hell dont want 140. I get that you need people to fill out games, but why does my experience have to suffer?

Honestly the map tutorials should have the option to be disabled more than merc showcasing. I actually like seeing what my team is bringing to the match, and seeing the rarity of their cards and trinkets gives me a vague idea of what I can expect from them. If anything I wish they lasted a bit longer so I could actually look at what my team has instead of a glance.
Besides, so let’s say they give you the option do disable the showcase. What then? You’re still stuck waiting for everyone else, the match isn’t going to start earlier for you. The most you’d be able to pull off is extra warmup time.

Due to where servers are actually located and how many there are, it’s not always possible to find a low ping server, if one is close enough to you at all. Ping can be annoying, but frankly 100 is completely playable. Of course it should be capped, I’ve seen people in CMM with 300 ping, but nitpicking it too much just isn’t worth the extra wait time imo.
You’re complaining about wait times while asking for something that would result in extra wait times, lol

But if it’s really that big of an issue, just use the server browser.

Loadout showcase doesn’t take up extra time; it’s actually making your waiting less boring, because the server is adjusting settings for you to play while the showcase is active

This.

Any kind of cutscene, or animation makes waiting less boring, even if it’s the same cutscene over and over again, you are not stuck in 15 sec countdown watching your teammates being unable to move

Maybe option to skip the introduction of OBJs would be good. Dunno, it doesn’t bother me.

I know it’s not a popular opinion, but I feel the same: right now they flash by so fast, you can’t really absorb the information. If you’re going to show everyone’s lineup, give us a chance to actually see it properly…

I would rather have the loadout showcase while we’re waiting in the lobby, kind of like an inspect function. Then load into the game normally.

I'm OK with the idea that you think 100ms is fine. I just don't want to play in those games. Before this, I opened the server browser, had my options selected, sorted by ping, and picked a a server. I rarely had to wait at all. If I did, that was because I knew the quality was going to be what I wanted, so I was OK with it.

Now, I get routed into a game that I would have never selected.

Again, I get that servers need to be filled out, but give me the option to only get put on servers that are within a region, or a max ping. If that is impossible, once rentable servers are a thing, I'll just join those and never use the casual matchmaking. I don't hate the idea of casual matchmaking, but I'm not going to use it if its a worse experience, just to use it.

Just use the server browser then, it’s not a big deal. It’s impractical to limit everyone to under 50 ping on a game with as low of a player population as DB.

I just gotta say that 100 ping is fairly unplayable. Don’t get me wrong, it can be done, but it’s pretty terrible, especially when you’re facing off against decent opponents. The teleporting, late hit registration, etc. makes for a poor experience. It used to be different, about a year ago? Previously, any ping was fine for the most part, but something changed, maybe the servers? I remember being able to play with/against people of pings 150+ and not experiencing many hiccups- like trying to shoot a player with a high ping was easy, they weren’t teleporting all over the place.

Not being able to choose my subregion, like U.S. East or West is the primary reason I stay away from “casual” matchmaking. The server browser was/is always gonna be the better option. Unfortunately, they removed Execution entirely, and removed Objective from the server browser so the only choice I have is a 30 minute game. There’s too many problems with CMM. It isn’t even casual play, it’s just a more populated ranked. I wish we would at least have some Obj servers in the server browser. They said they would be keeping the server browser, but never clarified that they would be removing Objective from it! :frowning:

I don’t see that ever becoming an option.
They are real time in game map events that are loaded and trigger the camera and voice lines to play out.

To remove this they would likely need to scrap that whole process and instead have it load a video tutorial for that map (would no longer be in real time) then allow people to skip it so they can waste time in pre-round instead.

Honestly though, I don’t see much of a point to all of that work, it doesn’t take that long to view the tutorial each time and since it is forced, it means newer players or ones unaware of that map’s objectives will have it explained to them… which is better than having team mates having even less of a clue as to what they are suppose to be doing.

I would if it was still an option, but they have said that they are removing the ability to do that. They want everyone to use the casual matchmaking. So where does that leave me? It’s not a threat, but if I don’t get matches that I feel are reasonable, I will wind up not playing. It’s just what happens.

Let me also say that I am a founder of this game because I like SD’s games, and I want them to succeed. If that success is without me as a player, I still want them to have it. Maybe my request can’t be accommodated, but maybe it can…so i ask.

Well, my game tends to lag out weirdly during loading sometimes, meaning I’m forced to watch the tutorial after the game has already started and everyone is doing their own thing, so I’d assume there’s some possible way to do it, probably just hiding everything except the map on the client side.

I just think it would be nice to have the option to disable. I mean, I’ve seen the tutorials over a thousand times, and I’d rather just mess around in the pre-game match for a few seconds or even stare blankly at other players at this point. Not to mention it would fix the bug I mentioned earlier so I don’t get stuck spawning after everyone else just because of the tutorial.
Anyone who’s played the maps more than once or twice should know how things work, it would be cool to get the option after a certain level.

Maybe the merc show case is part of the loading screen instead of a spinning circle they show us this. If the game is loadig assets in the back ground id rather this than the boring map wallpaper with the spining circle in the corner of the screen for 10-20 seconds lile it used to.

@averagerussian if you’re gonna disagree with my comments, at least say why, or give a better option.
There’s literally no reason I can see why someone with hundreds of hours should have to watch a tutorial that they’ve seen hundreds of times, at least no reason I can see. If you have one, I’d be glad to hear your input. This is a forum after all.
