Loadout Cards and buying Mercs...

Are stupid… Loadout Cards have to be the #1 worst RNG pit of cock blocking customization mechanic I have ever come across in a fps game, right next to any gambling mechanic in games. It literally takes the gambling for skins bit to a next level and makes you gamble just to get the gun/perk set up you want. In the description for the CB Key Giveaway there hosting on Alienware they say and I quote:

“Your Mercs, Your Style: Choose from a wide array of distinct Mercenaries. Need heavy fire-power? Pick Fragger, a big man with a big gun and grenades to boot. Prefer a speedy little skirmisher? Grab Proxy and race around the map, hitting the flanks with a shotgun or cricket bat. Each Merc has a variety of load-outs and attributes to suit your style. So select your favorite three, form a squad, and get ready to Play Dirty!”

Yeah. If I want to grind 30 hours to get a single one of those mercs and than grind another 30 fighting RNG loadout cards to get what I want, totally my style. I remember in early alpha builds all the mercs were free and we could actually choose our loadout along with gun skins, why did anyone think taking the customization features away in plan of a Card that gives no choices to the player was a good idea? Did they think there player base was 5 or something and couldn’t handle the options?

I may sound like I completely hate this game, but honestly I do not. It’s hella fun and a seriously refreshing fps in the current market, but with it’s current Loadout/Overpriced Mercs/No customization what-so-ever system it will be another quickly overlooked game only to get a 100 or so dedicated players and slowly die a slow death. More and more f2p games have been catching on that if the game is fun and fair in its payment model, people will pay to support it. Games like Path of Exile that are definitely no Valve only sell Skins and still get by, plenty are willing to support it because it’s a FUN game and doesn’t demand money. But Dirty Bomb? It’s fun, but the payment model currently and what seems to be the future one also is crap. I feel no progression due to Merc pricing and loadout cards are again, just stupid. I would LOVE to see this game hit it off real well and survive, but I doubt people will stay even if it’s fun with it’s current Loadout/Merc system.

card RNG system is awful, made the same bronze sniper 3 times in a row, atleast give us the choice to pick the primary weapon!

Am I the only one to like this innovative system?

First of all, it encourage players to try a lot of different loadouts. It oblige you to try hard on a weapon that you didn’t like at first, but then you manage to control it and love it. In the same way it can encourage you to pick a merc that at first you didn’t like because you have a good loadout for it.

Plus, it creates a good variety of loadouts in the game, because everyone doesn’t pick the number one build that suggests the internet. It’s a great way to learn the game.

I see Dirty Bomb as a demanding and competitive game with a big learning curve. And as a F2P, it’s fair (with eventually better gold earning rate). You can’t buy direct power, you can only waste your money on luck, which is fair.

And finally, as Dota 2 and CS GO, the system is addictive. Which for me at least, adds more fun.

@astuteDivision, both DotA and CS:GO don’t offer any gameplay modifying features (coughtechiescough), so it’s not exactly the same. Moreover, by the definition of competition, all players should be put on the equal ground via means provided by the rules of a particular activity, which is close, but not exactly the case in Dirty Bomb, hence the discussion.

@yakcyll, I agree, it’s not perfect in terms of equality

I guess SpalshDamage don’t have enough fund (as Valve) to do a “only cosmetic” shop.

Yea I have to agree Kyuzwel. In my experience with this game, I have spent around 40k credits on buying loadout cases. Now this would have been fine since i bought a few 6.50 mercs. BUT(behold the big BUT) 40 k = 40 attempts at getting good loadouts. and guess what. 40 LEADS GUYS! now i feel like Ive wasted all the credits Ive earned. The whole gamble to get what you want until you finally get it but the chances of landing on higher tier loadouts is really low thing has gotten beyond old. Oh and then to add to the misery. It lets you combine 3 of same tier loadout to produce the next tier. BUT(again with the but) it also costs huge amounts of credits. I also end up with the same weapons as the previous tier, but get a perk i didnt have. iuno it just doesnt feel rewarding what so ever. The gambling thing is addictive, which some ppl translate to fun. I do not however. I feel ripped off. I could have boughten a 50k merc for how much ive earned if i didnt blindly blow all the creds on cases that i thought at least had favorable odds to land good and new loadouts. Still a really fun game. but these systems outside the matches need some work.
