LNA Trick Jump....

({PiQ} Apoch) #61

We need a walkthrough for this map… I’ve just started trickjumping this week and I’m having trouble with a few jumps. I realize they aren’t all 100% real from the ET maps, but I figure I’ll get good here first, then practice on the real thing until I can do it in competition

The first Radar jump (Allies spawn) is easy enough… stand on the hill with the slope going up and to your right, about 3 paces back from where the steep edge begins. Sprint, jump, and strafe towards the slope, then while in midair look towards your feet, and hold the keys for sprint, walk, jump, and strafe left. As soon as you hit the ground, twitch your aim back up to horizontal, and you’re up.

The second jump, Fueldump, is one of the easiest jumps in the map. Walk up the hill until you reach the seam of the rock where you can’t go further. Look down and towards the hut, then jump and strafe left, but don’t sprint. Hold the keys for walk, sprint, and strafe right, and look at your feet. Twitch your aim again as before and you’re on the roof. The only really difficult factor to this jump is landing soon enough on your first hop to get a solid second jump.

Next is another jump from Fueldump. This one took me a while, and my method is probably not “orthodox,” but it works for me most of the time. Walk up to the edge of the snow where it meets the rocks, then look down the hill towards the building. Jump up and to the right, onto the hill, the turn and point at the ground; aim to hit the ground roughly where the tree is (there is a shadow on the ground, but no actual tree; the tree is in the real fueldump map). Hold the keys for sprint, walk, and strafe right, and twitch your aim up onto the roof as you touch the ground. Takes a few tries to get the “sweet spot” on the hill, but isn’t too bad after that. Hop through the little window, fall down the chute into the water, and crawl out for…

…yes, more Fueldump. I personally favor going inside the gate first, but it doesn’t matter really; the first step here is to get onto the hill above where the fence meets the snow. From inside the gate this is a simple matter of sprinting and jumping up the slope; I don’t have a guaranteed method for getting up from the other side, though. Once on the hill, simply jump once to a point about halfway along the line of barbed wire, and jump again onto the gate. Back up towards the end of the gate, then face the building, looking slightly down and left. Sprint forward, strafe left, and twitch onto the ledge. Here is the most likely spot for trouble, in my experience at least; you have to be careful not to slide off the slope of the ledge. Creep along until you can see clearly around the corner, then face the shorter bit of the fence and sprint/twitch onto it. Hop off the fence and you’re done.`

Now we get a really easy bit from Railgun. I think this jump is a bit of a joke, but it does take some coordination to avoid falling off the second ledge. This is really straightforward; just sprint and jump across all 3 stages and climb the orange ladder to proceed.

Next up is a nasty jump from Battery. The jump itself is not complex, but I still haven’t found a surefire way to do it. The general idea is to jump from the sand onto the middle pillar, where it tapers slightly, and from there onto the third pillar, then onto the ledge and through the window. It seems to me that the jump got a bit harder between beta 3 and beta 6.

After that there’s a pitiful little number from Radar. Walk up the net, to the corner of the wall, and sprint, jump, and strafe left to avoid hitting the rock. You’ll slide across the hill and end up at the ladder, which leads to the next jump… the infamous:

WALL JUMP. This is another one I haven’t mastered yet. The idea is to jump from the first balcony onto the second, and from the very edge of the second, make a leap over the wall. Make sure to twitch lots and make sure you are hitting the jump keys before you land. Other than that, I have no hints of any value.

After this follows several jumps which quite frankly mystify me. Eventually you’ll get to the metal slide from Radar. This one is fairly easy; just twitch and jump up the slide, then jump onto the roof, and jump across the peaks until you get to the exit.

Then comes a fairly easy one from Oasis. Run towards the ledge, aiming about 40 degrees to the left. Sprint and jump, and strafe left in the air, while aiming towards the right. You will curve slightly and end up on top of the wall. After that though is another jump which I can’t even begin to manage.

Have a quick swim after the second Oasis jump and you’re on to the big bad Battery, again. This is yet another jump that I haven’t gotten down. I’ve come very close once or twice, but never actually made it, and I’ve got no solid ideas for how to tackle it. Wander through a rather tight chute and you’ll arrive at the final obstacle: the uberjump from Radar. Again, I have no idea what to do here.

I’ve only got one other rather useless bit to offer, and that is my trickjump practice script. Handles all of your settings and variables with ease; as soon as the intro movie in ET starts playing, you can drop down the console and /exec this script to start jumping.

During the jumping session, I find that the cheats /give all, /god, and /noclip are the most useful, in increasing order. And there you have it. Further contributions are awaited eagerly… I’m addicted to this jumping stuff
