Ok i built a base for a map got the scale the way i want it and 80% of the brush work done all ready.
What i want is some tips on to do the terrain correct ! i’am new to easygen and finding it hard to get the desired shape nevermind texture ( save that for another post )
So heres a piccy showing my base and i put a yellow line where i want the terrain to be, it kinda spawned the other night when playing golden eye @ a friend’s ( N64), so anyone who has played Golden eye will know the effect i’m after!
Tnx in advance.

tbh,

use thin mesh for this

find out how big a 33x33 sized bmp will make in radient, and then go from there.

Delete the triangles after importing the terrain that you dont need,

you can shorten or cut triangles too…

im sorry if this doesnt help.

hey nice avator
Yeh tried that 33x33 about just covered the bottom left corner, but if anyone has played goldneye you will know the terrain over laps the small wall all around the base but doesnt come inside.
I tried taking a picture of my map then resizing it then drawing layers of terrain around it, which was crap :stuck_out_tongue:
Around 128x128 is a fine size for it then i can trim all the extra crap off, but i cant get the actual shape to sit tight around the base? any more ideas plz…

Ps i find if i cut the terrain and re-texture it give’s a real ugly blur look in the game.

Don’t use thin mesh. ydnar has warned against the evils of this many times. In fact, looking at your diagram, the general excuse for using thin mesh isn’t even applicable to your need.

For something like this, where the terrain has to be so tightly integrated into an existing structure, I would create the terrain manually in radiant, maybe with gensurf.

other ideas (using easygen):

  1. create multiple terrain entities, one for each circle of yellow on your diagram.
  2. create one large terrain and then subtract all the triangles that lie outside of the yellow.

Personally, I think manually is the way to go though. Look at mp_base from rtcw. By the allied spawn, there is manually done terrain around the bridge. That’s what you need to accomplish.

I’m not sure i know how to do manual, well infact i’m sure i dont :stuck_out_tongue:
Point me in direction of a tutorial maybe?
Seen thats next on redfella list too

ye - i actually hate using thin mesh - and for tunnels, i actually used non thin mesh, and found it worked better as i can texture the ceiling.

WTF happened to Special Operations red?

Dunno after the forums disappeared it kinda went down hill :frowning: thinks pogs is working on a Q3 mod ?
I think i got it btw… i generated a tracemap which should give me good base to draw round for easygen.
Although still wouldnt mind a linky for tut on manual terrain
