Lightray3D and MDM / MDX

(nUllSkillZ) #1

I’ve bought a copy of Lightray3d.
And I’ve tested the im- and export the first time today.
Test was done with allied body.mdm and body.mdx.

The import of mdm (mesh) is working.
I don’t think the animation is imported into Lightray3d.
May be I haven’t found out how to play the animation / how to import correctly.
After pressing the > button nothing has happened.

The direct export to mdm / mdx seems not to work.
MDM: I can’t see the playerfigure.
MDX: Some weird animations
May be a mistake during export.

Export to:

Missing animation could be because of a mistake during import.

When importing, after you select the mdm and mdx files, a list of animations you want to import appears on the left. Click the ALL button to select them all, then hit ok. It should import 4887 frames of animation from the body.mdx file. If you don’t select any animations from the list, no animations get imported. That may be what was happening.

I know it works since I’ve downloaded lightray from their site and imported stuff many, many times. Since I haven’t purchased a key, I can’t export anything, so I can’t help you out there.

Strange.
There aren’t any animations in the list.

Hmm, try re-extracting the mdm and mdx from the pak0.pk3 file. Maybe they were damaged somehow. Then try to import models\players emperate\allied\soldier\body.mdm as your mdm and the animations\human\base\body.mdx as your mdx. After you select the mdx and hit ok, that list should pop up. On the right side theres checkboxes for meshes, bones, animations, and materials… make sure they are all checked.

Again, should work. If not, you could try deleting the RTCW plugin and download a new one.

Re-extracted the mdm and mdx.
Re-downloaded the im-/exporter plugin.
No chance.
Not sure where my mistake is.
:banghead:

Edit:

Re-installed Lightray3d.
Re-registered Lightray3d.
Still no animations.

:goes to get lightray3d to use an help out:

(nUllSkillZ) #7

I’ve emailed the author.
Have to wait for his reply.
Thanks so far for your help.

Unfortunately there isn’t a forum available at the homepage of Lightray3d.

(Jaquboss) #8

also ask TCE guys they are working with it too
EDIT: also make sure that you are using anim files just get all into one directory, if it can’t import animations then do it , because i could import them

Sorry about that link above…

I just downloaded and installed…when you import an MDM, it will then ask for the MDX animation. Choose whcih animation to load from the animations/human/base directory. I have it working.

(nUllSkillZ) #11

Forum isn’t working.
Under construction or something similar.

Yeah I know after selecting the body.mdm it asks for mdx.
After selecting body.mdx another dialog window appears where one can select the animations.
But this list is empty.
Even if I click all none is imported.

Edit:

Oops haven’t seen the screenshots.
Is this akimbo.mdx?
Just try this one.

[edit1]
Nothing.
:frowning:
I also can not import animations for MDS and MD3.
Really strange.
[/edit1]

[edit2]
I’m too stupid guys.
It works.
Originally I have thrown all the files in Lightrays3D objects directory.
Now I have imported the files from the original directories.
Shame on me.
I’m too stupid.
I think I will leave and never come back.

Just came to my mind:
Is it allowed to offer files that have been converted with Lightray3D for download?

Sorry for double post.

(P4nth3r) #13

You mean new mdx files with new animations??

(Shaderman) #14

I’d say no if the source for the conversion is copyright protected.

(P4nth3r) #15

I think that not much is “allowed” but everything is done.
And most modders would sure like to have more player animations.

(tjw) #16

Do not forget Article 2 Section j of the SDK license.

Edit:

That was meant to be humour… Well, sort of.

(P4nth3r) #17

^^ I probably didn’t have my sences of humor installed =P

(Shanks) #18

It has to read the aninc file for the animation information, so you should have copied that to the objects directory too

(nUllSkillZ) #19

Thanks for the info -bacon-

Actually I thought about to offer the original MDM/MDX files converted to a format that can be used  .
Only problem is which format.
I tried ASE again yesterday because I know Max can import ASE.
But this file was too big.
The other option would be a Milkshape format.
But there aren’t exporter for Milkshape that exports SKL that is used for the skl2mds tool (which is then used for the mds2mdm/mdx tool from ikanatto).
(haven’t tried the MOHAA SKL exporter so far).
Idea is to give more people the chance to work on player models and playermodel animtions.

I’m now trying to use FBX as it’s supported by a lot of programs, natively or trough plugins.
The list includes 3ds max, newest milkshape, lightwave, maya and xsi. I’m not sure about lightray3d though, but it probably is.
