-lightphase can affect -vis phase!

This is very very odd. My friend was doing test maps and he was compiling on _lightmapscale 22.

When he compiles on lightmapscale 1-3 or so, all the hints work great and where its not hinting the game inserts its own portal lines. However, at lightmap scale 22, there is a MAJOR effect on the -vis in game. These seems very odd to be since I thought that the -light phase came after the -vis phase.

Here are some picks of me looking out one of the main windows. I am inside a room not in the void.

Ok, now I will use r_lockpvs 1 so that i can go fly out into the void get a better view of all that stuff.

I didn’t even believe him when he said that _lightmapscale could affect anything in the -vis phase since that is contrary to most eveyrthing I would think. Something is very odd about this.

Here is me in radiant so u can see it’s not one GIANT box.

You’ve broken something in the compiler, game or your map. Not too surprising, since 22 isn’t really a sane value for lightmapscale.

Ya I can see that but it works fine when we lower the lightmapscale. The point is that the -light phase comes completely after the -vis phase. The -vis phase should be done and completed already with defined leaf nodes and defined PVS sets for each leaf node.

The fact that a high _lightmapscale can have any effect whatsoever on the -vis prcoss is what I find odd but that is what is happening.

I’ll be sure to post some pics of the final compile that is done on a lower lightmapscale.
