Lightning-Error

(Rought) #1

Greetings…

I have a big problem with my lightmap…I dunno why but some brushes in the map seem to be simply black…
I have 2 Pics where you can see on the first screen, that these forms on those columns are too dark and I have no idea why! :???:

I deleted some light-models and it changed the lightning on some places, but not all! Maybe it’s a problem with the models, but maybe it’s just an entry in the worldspawn…I DON’T KNOW :frowning:

hm… what value did u give the ambient key on the worldspawn?! if u havent set a ambient u might wanna try that out!

no! do not use ambient lighting, ambient lighting is evil!

Try compiling your map using the latest development build of q3map2 with these light stage options:

-light -fast -samples 3 -gamma 1.4 -compensate 1.2 -patchshadows -dirty -lightmapsize 512 -external -bounce

the -bounce 8 might be a bit of overkill, only do that if you got time to spare
you could tweak the gamma & compensate values a bit to suit your map better…

but please don’t use ambient…

Maybe this thread will help you.

Hewster had a similar problem…
BTW: Your screens look damn good!

Ok…thanks for your first answers!

I have an ambientkey set, but I tested just a small part of the map and it worked, althoug I’ve set the ambientkey to “8” !!!

I know the problems with ambient, but I just don’t want to make some parts brighter with a simple light-entity…I don’t like “unreal” lightning

But I’ll try your way joop…maybe it helps, but the testmaps, in case it’l work, would take much time in future, so I have to find an easier way…but first I’ll try

@thegnat: THX for your comment  I’ll post some more screens soon

use _minlight instead of ambient. Unlike ambient which raises everything up, _minlight only raises the light in the places that are below its threshold, so it won’t affect the places that are already lit but only the dark areas.

I don’t know why everyone bashes ambient lighting, it works great if you know how to use it properly.

(chavo_one) #8

because most people don’t know how to use it properly
