Lighting problem?

(Xterm1n8or) #1

Hi,

I made a few changes (structural) to my map, compiled, and then played it. Now i get really dark patches. They look like shadows, only i can’t tell from what it is from.

I have a copy of the bsp, before i made any changes, in a pk3. I host a game and start my map, all ok. So, i copied bsp from pk3 and replaced the other one with this. I start the map via console:
/sv_pure 0
/g_gametype 2
/developer 1
/devmap mymap

I still get these really dark patches. Can’t figure it out

This is what it should like like:

Hope someone can help, thanks.

have you compiled only the bsp part or also the vis and light ?

If you use the new bsp file with the old “light-files” ( the lm_0000.tga etc ) this can happen.
try to replace the “old” light-files with the “new” light-files in your pk3, maybe this will fix it.

nice looking map so far

Thanks Ganjaman

I didn’t actually include them in the pk3, are you supposed to? I did remove them and put them on my desktop for now, and it all seems ok again.
I will recompile shortly, i’m assuming this will generate new ones and will see if still ok.
I’m not too sure on these compile options so i always use a full one. It only takes a minute (literally) on my machine. I also tend to build my maps in sections (like this one).
The compile option i use is:
BSP -meta, -vis -saveprt, -light -fast -samples 2 -patchshadows -v

Thanks again.

EDIT recompiled and all ok again, many thanks

Sorry for not being able to help you. But I’m glad to hear that everything works again. I like this scene really!
It somehow reminds me of Isenstadt, there is a similar scene in Wolfenstein.
Great work

Well spotted KeMoN

It’s actually my reconstruction of Dowtown. I had just finished Wolfenstein and got the urge to build something. Didn’t know what, so i thought i would try to recreate this. I havn’t given much if any thought of what the objective is going to be, i’m just building for the fun of it atm

Where did you source the red brick and stone textures from? Been looking for something similar for my own project.

Looks really good so far by the way!

Thanks .Chris.

All tex are stock except of course the brick. It’s a freeware tileable one (can’t remember where exactly, was quite some time ago), but had to change alot as it was originally very orange.

The pic doesnt look to great as i had to reduce quality so it would be less than 100kb

I had this wish once too to build a scene from isenstadt, but I’ve never started it because it would be too big. But I hope you can realize this project, really! Don’t stop this project, mate
