Levels/Ranks

(SarathSai) #1

Showing those in game is really necessary?

When ever I jump into the game and try to have a fair match, it never happens. Even the shuffle don’t help in game :’(
and when in Lobby low rank/lvl players leave the game because they get intimidated by other player’s rank/lvl. :frowning:

I wish U take down the ranking system and implement something else(I don’t have any idea to suggest U ATM).

I believe this game need skills more than ranks but not everyone thinks like that, so it is better if it is not shown entirely.

PS: Mods please move this to the right place if it isn’t.

This is a first persons shooter, not an MMORPG.

Pretty sure he means skills as in leveling up your mercs. Which I think is a good idea. Or alternatively, remove levels/ranks altogether.

Sounded more sarcastic to me. But I guess it could have meant that levels have no place in a FPS?? I dunno

Because First person shooters aren’t Massive Multiplayer Online Role-Play Games…

It might sought like that but it is not.
Suppose there is a lvl 77 player in the lobby and there is a lvl 8 guy in the opposite team of lvl 77 , what do U think will happen?
Of course , he will try to change the team. Worse case scenario he will leave the lobby/room.

and sometimes the lobby shows who are in which team before the voting process ends(after the previous match ends), at that time most of the low rank players leave and so the imbalance in game.

so what my point is that the ranks should not be shown or take out that system and implement something similar in that place

That’s how Stopwatch works. Stay away of that mode if you want more balanced games.

This is a visual bug.

Man, next you’re going to tell me that not every single damn game needs crafting? Such crazy theories you all got here.

No buddy it sometimes happens with OBJ mode too

No, in Objective teams are assigned at the end of lobby. People still have a few seconds to leave because “OMG he has lvl 45 we can’t win” but it’s a way less serious problem than SW.

(FalC_16) #12

Before making massive changes to the system, I would first start with hiding the player levels. Just to test the behavior of players and remove the toxicity.

(bontsa) #13

This. Thousands of times. For one patch only, not big deal, just a week or 2 of testing hurts absolutely no-one, might give unimaginary amount of data of player behaviour in terms of both gameplay and chat, interacting, etc.

If it still doesn’t remove the idiocy of gg:ing right off the bat of the match start when not a single bullet has been exchanged between teams, then next idea off the oven and into testing. This is labelled as “Beta”, where are the weekly testings and changes we’re supposed to be seeing and trying out during this phase before the official release?

@RazielWarmonic @stayfreshshoe Bloody please. For Pete’s sake and for all that is green, boozy and entertaining in this mortal domain we call humbly and quite arrogantly “our” world.

E: How many times can a single man edit his post? Count is 6 is 7 is 8 and rising.

(Remedica) #14

Boohoo, you see the levels you cry, you don’t see the levels and you will probably still cry because team are “unbalanced”.
Every single day there’s new thread about how uneven this game is. They should make a whole new section where people could shed some tears.

(Hexfest) #15

Ever heard this before?

“-Eyh…its 4vs6”
“-Yeah, but you guys have a level 22”

(srswizard) #16

I’m gonna jump on the hide levels bandwagon soon, just in hopes of seeing these stupid threads go away, and so that I can then laugh when they hide levels, and it does NOTHING to fix the real problems.

(bontsa) #17

@Remedica @srswizard Boohoo, “unbalance” some people feel and some others cannot even handle is a giant bag of small/smaller issues put into a bundle it seems. Level’s effect on player behaviour is arguably one of those issues, so what harm there is to try out scrapping them for a while. Yes, I have seen and noted a post from one of you that it’s semi-good indicator for example judging if this Aura is going to find the defibrillators she has or stuck them up her bumhole so deep no matter of tutorial and sense can bring them back. That is a good point. I feel same could be achieved in other ways such as merc “experience” indicator or similar. Yep, could bring same shit all over, who knows. The key word is here is “Beta-phase” as in “trying stuff out”.

Gaming is seemingly getting “CallofDuty-nized” in sense of casual players wanting more and more ez winz without any thought, never stopping to think maybe they’re the ones that have to look into getting better if winning is their goal. Sure they’ll whine over anything, if its not levels it’s the next thing. However I see no bad in us whose goal is to have funtimes and socialize, try to get a sense of community, voicing our opinion how this stupid behaviour is dragging down the experience. As I said at the start of the ramble, it’s a bundle of issues. Bundle has to be taken apart piece-by-piece as the verb already indicates, nobody is with these resources going to tackle it all at once. Heck, if it can be even tackled. But how about starting at somewhere, trying out something.

I need a darn “you got a point BUT.” reaction button instead of simply “Like” and “Agree”

(blisteringOwlNest) #18

I’m a big fan of the “you can level each merc up to a lvl cap” idea. Then you can earn rewards for levelling up, and not be harassed. May also inspire playing different classes to get levelling rewards.

(bontsa) #19

There is point in what “hiding level does nothing” group states: next bish-bosh happens when people start looking at that as a reason they lost. “Oh diz guy’z maxed on Skyhammah gg nubs”.

However such merc-related reward could be more “accessible” for anyone. Amount you’d take to get to lvl15 for example you might’ve played 60% of the time with Merc X, maxing it out, and then theres somebody with overall playtime equal to lvl60 and they’re just trying out a merc they have barely touched in the past. Latter could perform much worse due inexperience on certain class, despite having longer overall experience. I’m just attempting to point out how silly system overall, playtime alone- induced level, is to begin with.

All in all it just might give less reason to be used as yet another lousy excuse to blame on losses/inbalance, hence least I see no reason not to try. But we’ll leave devs to decide on that. Maybe they have a silver bullet to fix everything causing useless blaming-on-external-factor- mindset with one change ^^ /sarcasm

(Amerika) #20

It wouldn’t fix the underlying issue of how the matchmaking system is currently working but there is little that can be done to fix that in a pub setting. It’s a bit easier in ranked MM due to the likelihood of players wanting to play a bit more serious, smaller roster of players etc. However, it still can’t factor in a lot of personal variables but there can be a system put into place that herds players into correct choices (again, stealing Overwatches hint system). It’s a layered problem that requires many different solutions to help improve how balance works. But there is no way to 100% fix the situation.

But removing viewable levels will instantly remove a ton of toxicity and bad assumptions made by the playerbase. The game is not balanced by levels yet most of the non-forum reading community (and even a lot in that community) thinks it is. There is a ton of hate around levels in general (and i’m not just talking about people being thin skinned). It just doesn’t need to be in the game as there is very little positive around them.

And as I’ve mentioned before you can still take a glance if they re-implement merc levels that cap out. I know you in particular want to glance at teams and simply judge potential competence based on time played which account levels give you. Well, what I want does that for you and would also remove most of the toxicity and bad assumptions made around infinite account levels.
