Let's Talk Melee Weapons

Can we all agree the hit boxes on knifes (and in some instances the cricket bat) is horrible?

I can’t tell you how many time’s I’ve been fist deep in someone’s… ahem … and the knife attacks just kept missing.

For some reason the knife only works if you’re hugging each other passionately, otherwise it usually misses.

And regarding the cricket bat, it has very weird interactions with aura’s healing station, at times I’ve sat on top of the station, attacking it, and it just misses, I wasn’t sure if this is a bug or a hit box issue.

Either way I think melee weapons defo need some work.

And for the record, I miss the throwing knives, made for some cool plays, I think they should’ve been reworked to grant the ability to switch between throwing and melee (with melee doing more damage but throwing being better at finishing enemies at range).

I usually forget melee exists at close range, I have no clue how any of it works, and to be honest, I find Dirty Bomb’s collision system, and player tracking system to be pretty jerky in the first place. TF2 has the best melee in any game I have every played so far, with lots of emphasis on timing and placement, and the ranges were pretty logical in my opinion.

@extravagentBypass a while back I was having issues tracking players in cqc, I tried putting my fov to the max, lowering and increasing the mouse speed and all that.
But after a while I realized although those settings help, the “merc” interaction (as you said) is quite odd in dirty bomb in cqc.
Me not being able to keep track of the players or at times getting stuck to the walls needed me to view the game’s mechanics different.
I’ve seen some people who do decent with a knife like @Sniff but for me and many, it just feels out of position.
After much practice I can keep track of players in cqc without problems now, still might have issues headshotting every now and then or getting stuck to walls here and there because of how the camera is but those I got used to, yet the melee system is a tad bit awkward.

I have to agree. I did went on melee runs for fun, but I always had trouble with hitting people with my knife. I jad to basically hug the person just to get a hit.

For knifing your hitbox seems to be wider than it is longer. Hugging them is a good tactic but hugging them from behind them is a better one.

blops2 knifing haha im damn near inside the guy and no register

my biggest problem is with beckhill, it has horrible register specially when trying to gib
the paddle acts weird when hugging though

Dark Souls has the best melee in every game ever.
