Let's talk about SMGs

(artfulSedan) #1

I noticed since the recent changes that the mory run n gun depended classes use SMGs more because shotguns aren’t in anymore or something ;). While there is nothing wrong with using SMGs there is soemthing on about the performance of these things in this game. They don’t feel like they are using pistol ammo. They off you in less than 2 secs in what feels like 3 hits. I run away scared from proxys because i knwo that even though my Ak is chambered in some rifle calibre I won’t be able to kill her. Either she will kill me in 2 secs jumping around ( the time is the problem not the jumping, i’m totally fine with that playstyle) or she dashes through my bullets and stabs me with a knife through my chest.

The benefit of a SMG should be that their lightweight, fast to aim and reload.
Not pocket MGs that only suffer from small Mag sizes.
I don’t know how but the TTK in this game gets dangerously close to CoD levels where you die from 2 bullets from any automatic weapon.

PS.: can someone please give me reall ammo for my assault rifles, the training blanks don’t really affect them as i need one mag to scare them off.

what are you talking about.

Any rifle (excl. burst)> any smg.

At very close distance SMG might have the advantage due to higher RoF. Anything else is Rifle’s domain. High damage, high accuracy, pop-pop-pop anybody is down.

In the end better aim wins most engagements and weapon balance is pretty subtle.

Higher dmg what are you talking about? I need one AK MAg to off an enemy with most of the shots hitting. While most of the engagements that i have with SMG wielders end within seconds. It’s nto that i have bad aim i even tried playing SMG and yes i tore appart the enemy from nearly every distance with it. Those things are pocket MGs. And to be fair many of the maps are CQC based.

I’m sorry but this is incorrect. I would be happy to help you out if you’d like though.

(EvoSteven) #5

If you hit right you can get 2 kills with an AK easily.

(artfulSedan) #6

It can’t be just me experiecing this. ROF > DMG.

PS.: It would be cool if you’d release Weapon charts SD.

(appreciativeBuster) #7

There are moments I need to do 5-6 headshots before I kill someone with SMG.

I disagree wholeheartedly with OP but am willing to look into individual differences inbetween SMGS. Have you read the patch notes? They’ve adjusted some!

PS:
I pwn SMG’s with my Skyhammer.

what matters is dps, not rof or dmg (dps is rof*damage)

@syku had found some weapon stats, pretty sure ARs had higher dps than smgs

(Harlot) #9

The balance between SMG and rifles is fine. Not everything needs tweaking.

(EvoSteven) #10

Well DPS is one way of looking at it… But that’s just too general. ROF is pretty important.

I’d rather have a constant stream of damage than bursts. If you miss that burst, you’re doomed. If you miss a bullet in an SMG, don’t worry, you already shot 5 others that did hit.

In CQC where your weapon is not constantly on the target, being able to deal small amounts of damage at a quick rate is better.

That’s why snipers are so bad in CQC, if you miss your first shot, you’re able to shoot for quite a while, meanwhile you get stomped by an SMG. That is normal, snipers are not designed for CQC.

Which is were the OP’s point comes in. A lot of this game IS in fact CQC. Rifles don’t match up.

Getting headshots on those annoying Proxys kills them so quickly. Oh, and character with SMGs in this game are fast. If you are MAKING the movements, you know where to aim. If you have an enemy unpredictable jumping around you, yea good luck hitting that with a rfile.

Oh btw I use a burst rifle. They changed quite a bit in this update but I don’t know if it’s better because I got suspended… Heh D:
