Let's Talk About AFK ?

(AlphaUT) #1

As far as i know that during the game, player can quit whenever they want. However it does not seems like a problem when we play objective or stopwatch, because most of players don’t quit in the same time and other players will fit in to the empty spots quick. But during the competitive match, other players CANNOT fit the empty spots, and if one of your teammate quit, it will effects other teammates that makes them think "oh… , we gonna lose, why i stay here ?’ As result, sometime players have to face a difficult situation like 3v5 or 2v5 or even 1v5. For the most important part of this discussion is that AFK does not get punishmet, and i think to be fair for those players (like me), we should let people know be AFK will get punish. If this is the situation that you had before, i suggest you come here and join this discussion. Feeding is not the conflict, the conflict is AFK

Wait… what? This is a problem with LITERALLY every competitive system across all games. No fix exists besides finding a new match or waiting it out.

You didn’t propose any fix to the problem of AFK players in competitive. This feels like a complaint that is trying to be worded productively. What discussion is there to be had about AFK players?

Even as far as feeding goes this isn’t a big problem in Dirty Bomb. Nothing is gained besides a tiny bit of XP if you die a bit. And dying a lot can actually help your team depending on the situation, like giving your life to pull off a defuse/bodyblock for a teammate.

Not to mention the only time I see AFKs in comp is generally when their team is getting stomped or there is a hacker in the match.

Ok, so your concern is lack of punishment for being AFK in a competitive match?

So based on that new information ~

I disagree at this point in time. Punishing people for AFK would be terrible with the current hacker reporting system. Once an ingame report function is implemented I would hope that it could be used for AFKs, Hacks, Exploits, Toxicity, etc.

The thought of punishing an AFK player before a hacker… I just don’t see this being nearly as big of a priority as dealing with the Hackers in competitive.

Why leave?

Its a pug match and lose or win you get some credits…

Unless the system has changed you get kicked after a certain amount of time for being AFK.

I’m with the OP on this one. While I hardly played ranked the last couple of days (damn you play X objective mode mission) I had a leaver in pretty much every single one (on both sides).

Now I don’t know wether this is due to server drops or crashes if it is than this needs a priority fix asap. Assuming that isn’t the problem:

I know from playing other competive games that quite a lot of people leave/surrender games as soon as the whole game, or their personal performance isn’t going as they wish it to be, argumenting that it is a waste of time.
Not only don’t I agree with that stance (you learn way more by playing against stronger enemies than roflstomping someone) but it is also a dick move against the remaining players on both sides. The enemy hates it because it cheapens their victory (and 15 min spawncamping isn’t that much fun either) and your team hates it because what could have been a hard fought victory or draw just became a lost cause (And one only has to look at the dirtycup games, to see how much comeback potential DB games have).

The moral issues aside, there might be also a technical problem with how DB handles things. Right now if someone Leaves and doesn’t come back the system will send out the message, that it is now save to leave for everyone else. Now I have no Idea how things work behind the curtain but to me this implies that the game acknowledges that it isn’t a fair / regular game anymore.
So I would assume that those matches are not counted the same as a regular match when it comes to ranking points.

And because of all that, the game should discourage leaving in ranked as much as possible (casual is fine hotjoining and leaving is the whole point of it).

I would like to see a system of clear communication and instant feedback like this.

  • Clear Messages before searching a ranked match that a match will take up to 40 minutes and that you should ensure you got the time for that (make clear that stopwatch is 2 sided while we are at it).
  • Very Clear Message when you hit Leave that this is an unfair behaviour towards your team and that this will get you punished.
  • Punishment in the form of a timed ban for all gamemodes and a Credits fine (I would suggest a clean 1500 for starters).
  • a good ingame reporting system in general.

I do understand that sometimes, despite your planning, things come up and you have to leave. But honestly if something urgent or important forces me to leave I gladly take the fine and timed ban (I’m busy anyways). But if you just leave 'cause you think another match will be an easier win, a credit fine stings.

Tested it and yes, you get kicked for being AFK and you get a penalty/temp comp ban if you don’t rejoin.

Above what you are saying, i do understand now. I think it is a shame that i never test it before, and i only ask other players. Maybe i got wrong information, but now i know what AFK will get after not rejoin amount of games. I will tell other players if they have the same question as i did. Thank you guys a lot.
